Փետրվարի 20-ին առաջին անգամ ցուցադրվել է «Թոմն ու Ջերին» մուլտֆիլմը:
«Թոմն ու Ջերին» (անգլ.՝ Tom and Jerry) անիմացիոն մուլտսերիալ է՝ ստեղծված ծաղրանկարիչներ Ուիլյամ Հաննայի և Ջոզեֆ Բարբերայի կողմից։ Այն պատմում է Ջերի անունով մկան և Թոմ անունով կատվի թշնամական հարաբերությունների ու արկածների մասին։
Մուլտֆիլմի առաջին սերիան ցուցադրվել է 1940 թվականի փետրվարի 20-ին։ Մուլտֆիլմի առաջին սերիաներում հերոսների անունները ուրիշ են եղել՝ Թոմը Ջասպեր իսկ Ջերին պարզապես Մուկ կամ Ջինկս։
Մուլտֆիլմը սկսած 1940 թվականից մինչև 1958 թվականը արտադրել է MGM ստուդիան, որի արտադրության տարիներին մուլտֆիլմը համարվել է լավագույնը՝ ստանալով 7 Օսկար, մուլտֆիլմը այլևս չարտադրելու պատճառը ստուդիայի փակումն էր։ 1961 թվականին «Rembrandt Films» ընկերությունը իրավունք ստացավ արտադրել մուլտֆիlմը, որի 13 թողարկումները ամենավատը համարվեցին մուլտֆիլմի պատմության մեջ։ Այնուհետև մուլտֆիլմը 1963 թվականից սկսեց արտադրել «Sib Tower 12 Productions» ընկերությունը մինչև 1967 թվականը։
Դրվագների մեծամասնության մեջ գործողություններն անցնում են փոքրիկ մի քաղաքում, Երկու-Հողաթափ-Մայրիկի տանը (որը երբեմն փոխարինվում է երիտասարդ կնոջով կամ ընդհանրապես չի մասնակցում)։ Սակայն մի շարք դեպքերում գործող անձինք կարող են ապրել նաև անմարդաբնակ կղզում, լողալ զբոսաշրջային նավով, հանգստանալ լողափում և այլն։
Ըստ սյուժեի՝ Թոմը ջանք չի խնայում մկնիկին բռնելու համար, սակայն նրան գրեթե երբեք դա չի հաջողվում[1]: Այնուամենայնիվ, որոշ մասերում կերպարները բավականին համերաշխ կյանք են վարում և կարող են օգնել միմյանց ամենադժվարին պահերին: Ինչպես մարդիկ, այդպել էլ գլխավոր կերպարներն ունեն իրենց թշնամիներն ու ընկերները։ Օրինակ՝ Թոմին հաճախ ծաղրում են Բուչ անունով կատուն և Սփայք շունը, իսկ Ջերիի չարություններում նրան օգնում է իր զարմիկը՝ մի փոքրիկ մկնիկ՝ Նիբլս անունով, և Կրյաքեր բադիկը։ Դրվագների մեծամասնությունում կերպարները չեն խոսում՝ ամենը սահմանափակվում է միայն ցավի ճիչերով և նյարդային կլման ձայներով, սակայն մի շարք դեպքերում առկա է ամբողջական, թեև կարճ երկխոսություն:
Մուլտֆիլմը քաջ ծանոթ է իր դաժանությամբ և բռնությամբ: Հաճախ կարճամետրաժ սերիաներում ցուցադրվում են պայթյուններ, կերպարների «կտրատում» և նույնիսկ մահ, սակայն դրանց մեծամասնությունն իրականանում է առանց արյան, և գլխավոր հերոսներն արդեն հաջորդ դրվագում վերակենդանանում են:
Կարճամետրաժ ֆիլմերում մեծ դեր է զբաղեցնում երաժշտական նվագակցումը, որի միջոցով փորձ է կատարվում փոխանցել այս կամ այն հերոսի հույզերը։ Հատկապես առանձնացվում է Սքոդ Բրեդլի կոմպոզիտորի դերը։ Նա, համատեղելով ջազի և կլասիկ երաժշտության տարրերը, ստեղծել է բարդ և յուրօրինակ պարտիտուրաներ, դրա հետ միասին դրվագներում հաճախ ներկայացնելով այդ ժամանակվա հայտնի մեղեդիների վերափոխված ձևերը։ Հետագա մուլտֆիլմներում երաժշտությունը հնչում է ավելի կարճ հատվածներով։
