Փետրվարի 14-ը՝ Սուրբ Վալենտինի օրը, ամբողջ աշխարհում նշվում է որպես սիրո և սիրահարների տոն։ Սակայն ժողովրդական հավատալիքներում այս օրը միայն ռոմանտիկ ժեստերի մասին չէ․ կան նաև մի շարք արգելքներ ու զգուշացումներ, որոնց, ըստ ավանդույթների, չհետևելը կարող է բացասաբար անդրադառնալ հարաբերությունների ու նույնիսկ բախտի վրա։

Համարվում է, որ փետրվարի 14-ին չի կարելի վիճել կամ բարձրաձայն պարզել հարաբերությունները։ Ըստ հավատալիքների՝ այդ օրը ծագած վեճը երկարատև հետևանքներ կարող է ունենալ և սառեցնել զգացմունքները։ Նույն պատճառով խորհուրդ չի տրվում հիշել հին վիրավորանքները կամ բացել անցյալի ցավոտ թեմաներ։

Արգելված է համարվում նաև միայնության մեջ օրը անցկացնելը՝ հատկապես նրանց համար, ովքեր արդեն ունեն զուգընկեր։ Ժողովրդական համոզմունքների համաձայն՝ Սուրբ Վալենտինի օրը մենակ մնալը կարող է երկարատև միայնություն «կանչել» կյանքի մեջ։

Մեկ այլ տարածված հավատալիք է՝ այդ օրը չի կարելի կոտրել կամ կորցնել նվերներ, հատկապես սիրո խորհրդանիշներ համարվող մատանիներ, սրտաձև իրեր կամ բացիկներ։ Սա ընկալվում է որպես հարաբերությունների խզման կամ զգացմունքների թուլացման նշան։

Նշվում է նաև, որ փետրվարի 14-ին խորհուրդ չի տրվում խոստումներ տալ, եթե դրանց մեջ վստահ չեք։ Համարվում է, որ այդ օրը տրված կեղծ կամ անլուրջ խոստումները հետագայում կվերադառնան հիասթափության ձևով։

Չնայած այս բոլոր արգելքներին՝ մասնագետներն ու հոգեբանները հիշեցնում են, որ Սուրբ Վալենտինի օրը նախ և առաջ զգացմունքների, ուշադրության ու անկեղծ շփման մասին է, իսկ հավատալիքները պետք է ընկալել որպես մշակութային ժառանգության մի մաս, ոչ թե պարտադիր կանոն։
