Մ.թ.ա. 330 թվականին Ալեքսանդր Մակեդոնացու կողմից ոչնչացված Հին Պարսկական կայսրության մայրաքաղաք Պերսեպոլիսում իրականացված միջազգային հնագիտական առաքելությունը բացահայտել է քաղաքի կորսված հարստության մասշտաբների մասին նոր մանրամասներ։
Թագավորական պալատից արևմուտք գտնվող տարածքում մանրադիտակային նմուշներ վերլուծելով՝ գիտնականները օգտագործել են դյուրակիր ռենտգենյան ֆլուորեսցենտային վերլուծիչներ և սպեկտրոսկոպիա՝ եգիպտական կապույտ ներկի (պղնձի վրա հիմնված սինթետիկ գունանյութ) հետքեր, ինչպես նաև բրոնզի վրա հիմնված մետաղական փշրանքներ հայտնաբերելու համար: Այս գտածոները վկայում են պալատական համալիրի անմիջական հարևանությամբ արհեստանոցների գոյության մասին, որտեղ արտադրվել են ներկեր և շենքերը զարդարելու համար նախատեսված այլ նյութեր:
Բոլոնիայի համալսարանի մասնագետների կողմից անցկացված ուսումնասիրությունը փոխում է Պերսեպոլիսի մասին մեր պատկերացումները. քաղաքը պարզապես քարե համալիր չէր, այլ վառ ներկված բազմագույն տարածք, որի գույներն ու դեկորատիվ տարրերը կորել էին հրդեհի ժամանակ։
Մինչ պատմաբանները շարունակում են բանավիճել հրկիզման պատճառների շուրջ՝ արդյոք դա հետերա թայիսների ազդեցության տակ կազմակերպված խնջույքի ժամանակ իմպուլսիվ գործողություն էր, թե՞ Աթենքի հրկիզման համար նախատեսված խորհրդանշական վրեժխնդրություն, նոր ապացույցները ֆիզիկապես հաստատում են Աքեմենյանների մշակութային և արհեստագործական ժառանգությանը հասցված հսկայական վնասը։
