Երբ անցած շաբաթ Իսրայելի վարչապետ Բենիամին Նեթանյահուն համոզում էր ԱՄՆ նախագահ Դոնալդ Թրամփին չհարվածել Իրանին, նա դա պատճառաբանում էր նրանով, որ Իսրայելը լիովին պատրաստ չէ պաշտպանվելու Թեհրանի հնարավոր պատասխան քայլերից, հայտնում է The Washington Post-ը՝ հղում անելով Սպիտակ տանը մոտ կանգնած անանուն աղբյուրի։
Ամերիկացի պաշտոնյան նշել է, որ հիմնական գործոնը եղել է տարածաշրջանում ԱՄՆ-ի նշանակալի ռազմական ներկայության բացակայությունը, որի վրա Իսրայելը հույս էր դրել՝ իրանական բալիստիկ հրթիռները հունիսին տեղի ունեցած 12-օրյա պատերազմի ընթացքում խոցելու համար։
Լրատվամիջոցը նաև հաղորդել է, որ Թրամփի գլխավոր խորհրդականները նախորդ շաբաթվա կեսերին համարում էին, թե հարվածն անխուսափելի է, մինչև որ Իրանի արտգործնախարար Աբաս Արաղչին հաղորդագրություն է ուղարկել Մերձավոր Արևելքի հարցերով Թրամփի խորհրդական Սթիվ Ուիթքոֆին, ինչը «մասամբ թուլացրել է իրավիճակը»։
