Խաչվերացն այս տարի կնշվի սեպտեմբերի 13-ին:
Ս. Խաչվերացը` Ս. Խաչի վեր բարձրացման և փառաբանության տոնը, Հայ Եկեղեցու 5 տաղավար տոներից մեկն է։ Ս. Խաչը, ինչպես Գրիգոր Տաթևացին է բնորոշել, դարձել է երկինքն ու երկիրը միավորող կամուրջը, «դրախտի դռները բացողը և երկնային արքայությունը որպես ժառանգություն տվողը»։
Եկեղեցական ավանդությամբ, երբ Գողգոթայում գտնվել է Քրիստոսի Խաչափայտը և վեր է բարձրացվել ի տես հավատացյալների, Երուսաղեմի առաջին եպիսկոպոս Ս. Հակոբոս Տյառնեղբայրը (33-62 թթ.) երգել է «Խաչի Քո, Քրիստոս, երկիր պագանեմք» շարականը: Քրիստոնյաների դեմ շուրջ երեք դար տևած հալածանքների ընթացքում Տիրոջ Խաչափայտի տեղը կրկին մնացել է անհայտ։
326 թ. Ս. Հեղինե թագուհին՝ Կոստանդիանոս Մեծի մայրը, Երուսաղեմում Մակար եպիսկոպոսի և հավատացյալների հետ գտել է Քրիստոսի Խաչափայտը։ Երուսաղեմի Մակար եպիսկոպոսը բարձրացրել է այն` հավատացյալների երկրպագության համար: 333 թ. Կոստանդիանոս Մեծը Քրիստոսի գերեզմանի վրա կառուցել է Ս. Հարության տաճարը։ Սեպտեմբերի 13-ին կատարվել է տաճարի նավակատիքը, որից հետո այն ամեն տարի տոնախմբվել է 8 օր շարունակ: Սեպտեմբերի 14ին հավաքվել են Գողգոթայում, վեր բարձրացրել Ս. Խաչը` ի տես ժողովրդի և երկրպագել:
Ս. Խաչվերացի տոնը մեծ նշանակություն է ստացել հատկապես պարսկական գերությունից Տիրոջ Խաչափայտը վերադարձնելուց հետո, երբ շեշտվել է ազատագրված Ս. Խաչի վերադարձը Երուսաղեմ: Դա տեղի է ունեցել 7րդ դարի առաջին կեսին: Պարսկաբյուզանդական պատերազմի ժամանակ՝ 614 թ., պարսիկները գրավել են Երուսաղեմը և գերեվարել Քրիստոսի Խաչափայտը: Երկարատև պատերազմում Հերակլ կայսեր գլխավորությամբ բյուզանդական բանակը հաղթել է։ Դրան մեծապես նպաստել են նաև հայկական զորագնդերը՝ Մժեժ Գնունու գլխավորությամբ: Ազատագրված Խաչափայտը մեծամեծ հանդիսություններով և կրոնական արարողություններով Հայաստանի վրայով տարվել է Կ. Պոլիս և ապա վերադարձվել Երուսաղեմ:
