Դատելով Սպիտակ տան պաշտոնական հայտարարություններից՝ Իրան-ԱՄՆ հարաբերություններում դիվանագիտական լուծումներն աստիճանաբար ավելի իրատեսական են դառնում, չնայած ռազմական բախման վտանգը պահպանվում է։ Այս մասին գրել է իրանագետ Վարդան Ոսկանյանը:
«Մասնավորապես, նախագահ Թրամփի մամուլի քարտուղար Լևիթը նշել է, որ ԱՄՆ նախագահը նախընտրում է Իրանի հետ հակամարտության դիվանագիտական լուծումը, սակայն չի բացառում ռազմական գործողությունները, եթե դրանք անհրաժեշտ համարվեն։ Ըստ նրա՝ ռազմական տարբերակները բացառված չեն, բայց զուգահեռ դիտարկվում են դիվանագիտալան լուծումները, որոնց տրվում է առաջնահերթություն։
Միևնույն ժամանակ նշվել էր, որ ԱՄՆ դիրքորոշումը դեռևս վերջնական չէ և կախված է իրադարձությունների զարգացումից։ Ըստ Լևիթի՝ վարչակազմը քննարկում է տարբեր մոտեցումներ՝ սկսած պատժամիջոցներից և դիվանագիտությունից մինչև հնարավոր ռազմական գործողություններ, իսկ նախագահ Թրամփը կարող է վերջնական որոշում կայացնել առաջիկա օրերին՝ շարունակելով վերլուծել իրավիճակը և Թեհրանից ստացվող ազդակները»,-գրել է նա։
