Հայտնաբերվել է օրգանիզմ, որը խախտում է կենսաբանության հիմնարար կանոնը

Կյանքի կառուցվածքը հիմնված է այն փաստի վրա, որ ԴՆԹ հաջորդականությունները սպիտակուցները կոդավորում են գենետիկական կոդի միջոցով։ Սովորաբար, երեք նուկլեոտիդների (այսպես կոչված կոդոններ) համադրությունները կամ նշում են քսան ամինաթթուներից մեկը, կամ ծառայում են որպես սպիտակուցի սինթեզը դադարեցնելու ազդանշան։ Այս կանոնը համարվում էր խիստ պարտադիր. յուրաքանչյուր կոդոն ուներ մեկ՝ հատուկ նշանակություն։
Սակայն Կալիֆոռնիայի Բերկլիի համալսարանի գիտնականների անցկացրած և Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences-ում հրապարակված նոր ուսումնասիրությունը հայտնաբերել է միկրոօրգանիզմ, որը խախտում է այս կանոնը։
Այս միկրոօրգանիզմը՝ Methanosarcina acetivorans արքեոնը, թվում է, թե տիպիկ մեթանոգեն օրգանիզմ է, բայց նույն կոդոնը՝ UAG-ն, մեկնաբանում է տարբեր կերպ. երբեմն որպես սպիտակուցի սինթեզը դադարեցնելու ազդանշան, իսկ երբեմն՝ որպես հազվագյուտ ամինաթթվի՝ պիրոլիզինի կոդ։ Այս «ազատ» թարգմանության մեխանիզմը հակասում է այն դասական պատկերացմանը, որ գենետիկական կոդի ցանկացած շեղում հանգեցնում է սխալների և ոչ ֆունկցիոնալ սպիտակուցների։
Գիտնականները նկատել են, որ արքեաների՝ UAG կոդոնը մեկնաբանելու որոշումը տատանվում է՝ կախված բջջում պիրոլիզինի խտությունից. երբ այն առատ է, կոդոնն ավելի հաճախ թարգմանվում է որպես ամինաթթու, երբ ցածր է, թարգմանվում է որպես կանգ առնելու ազդանշան: Սա ենթադրում է, որ օրգանիզմն ունակ է ճկունորեն կարգավորելու սպիտակուցի սինթեզը՝ կախված ներքին պայմաններից, և այդպիսով ոչ միայն գոյատևում է, այլև՝ ծաղկում։
Այս հայտնագործությունն ընդլայնում է մեր պատկերացումները գենետիկական կոդի կենսաբանական ճկունության մասին և ունի բժշկական հնարավոր հետևանքներ: Օրինակ, այն հնարավորություն է տալիս պատկերացում կազմելու, թե ինչպես կարելի է խառնվել կանգ առնելու ազդանշանով կոդոնի ճանաչման գործընթացներին թերապևտիկ նպատակով՝ վաղաժամ կանգառի ազդանշաններից (օրինակ՝ մուկովիսցիդոզ) առաջացած գենետիկական հիվանդությունները շտկելու համար։
Չնայած այս երևույթը նկատվում է արքեաների, այլ ոչ թե՝ մարդկանց մեջ, այն ցույց է տալիս, որ «կոշտ» ունիվերսալ գենետիկական կոդի գաղափարը հնարավոր է այնքան էլ բացարձակ չէ, որքան նախկինում կարծում էին։
