Ժավելը (քլորային սպիտակեցնող միջոցը) երկար տարիներ կիրառվել է որպես արագ ու «արդյունավետ» լուծում՝ սպիտակեցնելու և ախտահանելու համար։ Սակայն ժամանակակից մասնագետները հաճախ են զգուշացնում՝ հատկապես երեխաների հագուստի դեպքում ժավելը կարող է ավելի շատ վնաս պատճառել, քան օգուտ։

Առաջին և ամենակարևոր վտանգը առողջականն է։ Ժավելը ուժեղ քիմիական նյութ է, որի մնացորդները կարող են պահպանվել գործվածքի մեջ նույնիսկ բազմակի ողողումից հետո։ Երեխաների մաշկը զգայուն է, իսկ քիմիական մնացորդների հետ մշտական շփումը կարող է առաջացնել գրգռում, ալերգիկ ռեակցիաներ, կարմրություն կամ քոր։ Հատկապես վտանգավոր է նորածինների և փոքրիկների համար, որոնց իմունային համակարգը դեռ լիովին ձևավորված չէ։

Երկրորդ խնդիրը շնչառական համակարգին է վերաբերում։ Ժավելի գոլորշիները կարող են գրգռել շնչուղիները, առաջացնել հազ, գլխացավ կամ անհանգստություն։ Տանը լվացք անելիս, երբ երեխան գտնվում է նույն տարածքում, այդ գոլորշիները դառնում են լրացուցիչ ռիսկ։

Բացի առողջական հետևանքներից, ժավելը վնասում է նաև հագուստը։ Այն քայքայում է գործվածքի մանրաթելերը, ինչի հետևանքով հագուստը արագ մաշվում է, դառնում բարակ ու կոշտ։ Երեխաների հագուստի դեպքում, որը հաճախ է լվացվում, սա նշանակում է կարճ օգտագործման ժամկետ և ավելորդ ծախսեր։

Մասնագետները խորհուրդ են տալիս ժավելի փոխարեն ընտրել ավելի անվտանգ տարբերակներ՝ նուրբ մանկական լվացքի միջոցներ, օճառի հիմքով փոշիներ կամ բնական լուծումներ, որոնք նախատեսված են հատուկ երեխաների հագուստի համար։ Այս միջոցները ոչ միայն ավելի մեղմ են մաշկի նկատմամբ, այլև չեն թողնում վտանգավոր քիմիական հետքեր։

Եզրակացությունը պարզ է. երեխաների առողջությունը չպետք է վտանգվի արագ սպիտակեցման կամ «մաքուր տեսքի» համար։ Ժավելը կարող է արդյունավետ թվալ, սակայն երեխաների հագուստի դեպքում այն ավելի լավ է ընդհանրապես չօգտագործել՝ ընտրելով անվտանգ և խնամքով մշակված այլընտրանքներ։
