ԱՄՆ-ի ամենաժամանակակից ավիակիր «Gerald R. Ford»-ը կիրակի օրը ժամանել է Կարիբյան ծով՝ ցուցադրելով երկրի ռազմական ուժը։ Այս քայլը հարցեր է առաջացրել այն մասին, թե ինչպես կարող է զորքերի և սպառազինության նոր հոսքը ազդել նախագահ Դոնալդ Թրամփի վարչակազմի՝ Հարավային Ամերիկայում թմրամիջոցների դեմ պայքարի արշավի վրա, հաղորդում է Associated Press-ը։
Ավիակրի ժամանումը կարևոր փուլ է այն գործողության շրջանակում, որը Թրամփի վարչակազմը ներկայացնում է որպես թմրամիջոցների դեմ պայքար, սակայն դիտարկում է նաև որպես ճնշումն ուժեղացնելու մարտավարություն՝ ուղղված Վենեսուելայի նախագահ Նիկոլաս Մադուրոյի դեմ։
Սեպտեմբերի սկզբից ԱՄՆ-ի կողմից Կարիբյան ավազանում և Խաղաղ օվկիանոսի արևելյան հատվածում իրականացված օդային հարվածների հետևանքով զոհվել է առնվազն 80 մարդ՝ թմրամիջոցների տեղափոխման մեջ մեղադրվող փոքր նավերի դեմ իրականացված 20 հարձակումների արդյունքում։
«Gerald R. Ford»-ը եզրափակում է վերջին մի քանի սերունդների ընթացքում ԱՄՆ-ի ռազմական ուժի ամենախոշոր կուտակումը տարածաշրջանում։ Արդյունքում՝ ռազմածովային ուժերի գրեթե տասներկու նավերում տեղակայված զինծառայողների ընդհանուր թիվը հասել է մոտ 12 000-ի՝ «Հարավային գեղարդ» անունը կրող գործողության շրջանակում, որը ներկայացրել է պաշտպանության նախարար Փիթ Հեգսեթը։
