В День народного единства президент России Владимир Путин вручил орден Александра Невского главе Российской и Ново-Нахичеванской епархии Армянской Апостольской Церкви архиепископу Езрасу Нерсисяну.

Эта высокая государственная награда, по мнению наблюдателей, может рассматриваться как чёткий сигнал Еревану — в частности, правительству Никола Пашиняна — на фоне участившихся нападок на Армянскую Апостольскую Церковь и её духовенство.

Ранее премьер-министр Армении Никол Пашинян публично обвинил архиепископа Езраса Нерсисяна в «иностранном влиянии», заявив с трибуны парламента, что глава Российской и Ново-Нахичеванской епархии якобы является «агентом КГБ».

«В прессе появляется информация, что брат Католикоса является агентом КГБ, и больше ничего. Кто задаёт вопрос? Он агент КГБ, а теперь глава Ново-Нахичеванской епархии. Больше ничего — именно так и должно быть. Это безумие! Как такое может быть?» — заявил Пашинян во время сессии вопросов и ответов с членами правительства в Национальном собрании.

Награждение архиепископа Езраса в Москве многие расценивают как демонстрацию уважения к Армянской Апостольской Церкви и сигнал поддержки её служителям в условиях нарастающего давления со стороны властей Армении.
