Зохран Мамдани одержал победу на выборах мэра Нью-Йорка

Кандидат-мусульманин от Демократической партии, 34-летний Зохран Мамдани победил на выборах мэра Нью-Йорка, сообщает NBC News.

Мамдани обогнал бывшего  губернатора Эндрю Куомо  и кандидата от республиканцев Кертиса Сливу.

Мэр Эрик Адамс, который организовал кампанию по переизбранию от третьей стороны после того, как победил на выборах в 2021 году как демократ, выбыл из гонки в сентябре и поддержал Куомо в прошлом месяце.

Победа Мамдани знаменует стремительный взлет в политической жизни Нью-Йорка с тех пор, как он начал свою предвыборную кампанию примерно год назад, превратившись из практически неизвестного члена законодательного собрания штата, который едва зарегистрировался на выборах, в нового лидера крупнейшего города Америки.

Попутно он оттолкнул наследника одной из самых знаковых политических династий Нью-Йорка не один раз, а дважды в течение пяти месяцев.

Став известным на всю страну политическим деятелем, Мамдани попытается внедрить широкую политическую платформу, которая вдохновляла его сторонников, одновременно управляя огромной муниципальной бюрократией и оказывая влияние на национальную политику, как один из самых выдающихся  демократов в стране.

Мамдани планирует  заморозить арендную плату квартир, ввести всеобщий уход за детьми, запустить программу бесплатного автобусного сообщения и открыть городские продуктовые магазины.
