Գիտնականները կանգնել են հիասքանչ ու շփոթեցնող երևույթի առաջ․ մոտ 650 միլիոն լուսատարի հեռավորության վրա գտնվող գալակտիկայում սև խոռոչը ոչնչացրել է մի աստղ՝ բոլոր ընդունված պատկերացումներին դեմ գնալով։ Սև խոռոչը ոչ միայն կուլ է տվել աստղին գալակտիկայի կենտրոնից դուրս, որտեղ սովորաբար գտնվում են նման հսկա մարմինները, այլ նաև ամիսներ անց արձակել է երկու հզոր էներգետիկ հոսք՝ գիտնականների համար լիովին անսպասելի ժամանակահատվածում։
Երբ աստղը հայտնվում է հսկայական սև խոռոչի ձգողական դաշտում, սկսում է ձգվել ու մասնատվել՝ դառնալով պինդ ձգողական ուժերի զոհ։ Նման երևույթները հայտնի են որպես «տարրալուծման ալիքներ» կամ և համեմատաբար սովորական են տիեզերքում։ Աստղի մասնատման ժամանակ ազատվում է հսկայական քանակությամբ էներգիա, իսկ դրա մնացորդները ձևավորում են փոշու ու գազի սկավառակ խոռոչի շուրջը։
Գիտնականները ենթադրում են, որ ռադիոալիքները առաջացել են այն պահին, երբ սև խոռոչից արտանետված նյութը բախվել է շրջակա գազին՝ առաջացնելով հզոր հարվածային ալիքներ։ Սակայն մնում է առեղծված, թե ինչու այդ հոսքերը այդքան ուշացումով են արձակվել։ Այժմ այս «թափառող հսկան» կարծես խառնաշփոթ է տարածում իր նոր միջավայրում՝ ոչնչացնելով իր ճանապարհին հայտնվող անպաշտպան աստղերին։
