«The New York Times»-ը հաղորդում է, որ Խաղաղօվկիանոսյան հյուսիսարևմտյան ափին Խուան դե Ֆուկայի տեկտոնական սալի վրա հայտնաբերված խզվածքի մասին, որը խիստ անհանգստացրել է գիտնականներին։
«Մոլորակի առջև ծառացած տեկտոնական ռիսկերի շարքում Կալիֆոռնիայի Սան Անդրեասի բեկվածքի երկայնքով մեգաերկրաշարժի սպառնալիքը հատկապես անհանգստացնող է թվում, սակայն Կասկադիայի սուբդուկցիոն գոտում (սուբդուկցիոն գոտի, որտեղ Խուան դե Ֆուկայի տեկտոնական սալը հանդիպում է Հյուսիսային Ամերիկայի տեկտոնական սալի հետ) երկրաբանական խզվածքը մասնագետներին ավելի մեծ մտահոգության առիթ է տալիս», - նշվում է հոդվածում, փոխանցում է Panorama.am-ը։

Խուան դե Ֆուկա սալը տարածվում է Վաշինգտոնի, Օրեգոնի և Կալիֆոռնիայի նահանգների ափերի երկայնքով և սեղմված է Խաղաղ օվկիանոսի և Հյուսիսային Ամերիկայի սալերի միջև։

«Նյու Յորք Թայմս»-ի կողմից մեջբերված հետազոտողների խոսքերով՝ երկու սալերն էլ ճնշում են գործադրում Խուան դե Ֆուկա սարահարթի վրա՝ ստեղծելով հսկայական ներքին լարվածություն։ Գիտնականները շեշտել են, որ հենց սա է պատճառը, որ սալը պատռվում է իր ամենախոցելի կետերում։

1900 թվականից ի վեր ամենամեծ երկրաշարժերից մեկը տեղի է ունեցել Կամչատկայում հուլիսի 30-ին՝ 8.8 մագնիտուդով։ Այդ ժամանակվանից ի վեր գիտնականները ամեն օր գրանցում են հետցնցումներ։ Դրանց մեծ մասը չի զգացվում բնակեցված տարածքներում։ Սեյսմոլոգները նշում են, որ հետցնցումների ինտենսիվությունն ու ուժգնությունը աստիճանաբար նվազում են։
