Երկբևեռ խանգարման դեպքում մոլագարի նոպաներ ունեցող մարդկանց մաշկի ջերմաստիճանը ցերեկը զգալիորեն բարձր է, քան առողջ մասնակիցները կամ կայուն կամ դեպրեսիվ վիճակում գտնվող բուժառուները։ Երբ մոլուցքն անցնում է, ջերմաստիճանը վերադառնում է սովորական վիճակի։ Նման եզրակացության է հանգել գիտնականների միջազգային խումբը։ Հետազոտությունը հրապարակվել է Journal of Affective Disorders (JAD) բժշկագիտական  հանդեսում։

Երկբևեռ խանգարումը խրոնիկական հոգեկան հիվանդություն է, որը բնութագրվում է դեպրեսիայի և մոլագարության հերթագայող ժամանակահատվածներով։ Դեպրեսիվ փուլի ընթացքում մարդն ուժերի անկում, անտարբերություն և տագնապ, իսկ մոլագարության ժամանակ՝  էներգիայի պոռթկում, իմպուլսիվություն և ակտիվության աճ է զգում։ Հիվանդությունն ազդում է բնակչության մոտավորապես 2,4%-ի վրա և ամբողջ աշխարհում հաշմանդամության գլխավոր պատճառներից մեկն է։

Այսօր հոգեկան խանգարումների ախտորոշումը մեծ հաշվով կախված է հարցումներից և բժիշկների դիտարկումներից, ինչը այն սուբյեկտիվ է դարձնում։ Հետևաբար, գիտնականները փնտրում են օբյեկտիվ բիոմարկերներ, որոնք կարելի է հետևել դյուրակիր սարքերի միջոցով։

Նոր հետազոտությանը մասնակցել է 139 չափահաս՝ 104 բուժառու՝ երկբևեռ խանգարումով (մոլագարության, դեպրեսիվ կամ կայուն վիճակում) և 35 առողջ կամավոր։ Մասնակիցները երկու օր անընդմեջ հատուկ ապարանջաններ են կրել։ Սենսորները գրանցել են նրանց մաշկի ջերմաստիճանն ու ակտիվության մակարդակը։

Արդյունքները անսպասելիորեն հստակ էին. մոլագարության փուլում գտնվող մարդկանց մաշկի ջերմաստիճանը մյուս խմբերի մարդկանց մաշկի ջերմաստիճանի համեմատ միջինում 0,8°C-ով բարձր էր։ Նոպայի ավարտից հետո այս ցուցանիշը նվազել է և սահմանված չափի հետ համադրելի է դարձել։

Գիտնականների կարծիքով՝ ջերմաստիճանի բարձրացման հնարավոր պատճառներից են միտոքոնդրիաների (բջջային էներգիայի «էլեկտրակայաններ») ակտիվության աճը մոլագարության ընթացքում, ինչպես նաև ուղեղի համակարգերի խանգարումները, որոնք կարգավորում են ցիրկադային ռիթմերը (օրգանիզմի քնի և արթունության հերթափոխումը կարգավորող՝ 24 ժամը մեկ կրկնվող բնական գործընթաց -խմբ) և ջերմափոխանակումը։

Հետազոտողներն ընդգծում են, որ մաշկի ջերմաստիճանը միայնակ չի կարող ծառայել որպես ախտորոշում, բայց երբ այն համակցվում է այլ թվային բիոմարկերների (օրինակ՝ սրտի տրոփյունի փոփոխականության կամ մաշկի էլեկտրական ակտիվության) հետ, այն կարող է դառնալ մոլագարության նոպաների վաղ հայտնաբերման և բուժման վերահսկող գործիք։
