Նիկոլ Փաշինյանի իշխանության տարիները, որոնք հանրությանը ներկայացվեցին որպես «նոր Հայաստանի» դարաշրջան, իրականում վերածվեցին տնտեսական ճգնաժամի, սոցիալական անկման և նվաստացուցիչ զիջումների շրջանի։ Կառավարության ամենահնչեղ խոստումներից մեկը «բարգավաճող Հայաստանի» գաղափարն էր, սակայն քաղաքացիների առօրյա կյանքում այդ խոստումները փոխարինվեցին գների կտրուկ աճով, աշխատատեղերի պակասով և աղքատության խորացմամբ։ Տնտեսական ցուցանիշները խոսում են ինքնին․ տնտեսությունը դանդաղում է, իսկ ներդրումների փոխարեն երկրից արտահոսում է մարդկային և ֆինանսական կապիտալը։

Այս ամենին զուգահեռ՝ Հայաստանը հայտնվեց նվաստացուցիչ ու միակողմանի զիջումների ճանապարհին։ Ադրբեջանին տրված տարածքային ու քաղաքական զիջումները ոչ միայն խարխլեցին Հայաստանի անվտանգության հիմքերը, այլ նաև ցույց տվեցին, որ իշխանությունը պատրաստ է ազգային շահերը զոհաբերել սեփական իշխանական շահերի համար։

Միևնույն ժամանակ՝ Փաշինյանի իշխանությունը շարունակեց հասարակությանը կերակրել «կոռուպցիայի դեմ պայքարի» պոպուլիստական կարգախոսներով։ Սակայն իրականությունն այլ է․ հենց Փաշինյանի մերձավոր շրջապատն է այս տարիներին աննախադեպ հարստացել։ Այն, ինչ ներկայացվում էր որպես «արդարության վերականգնում», փաստացի վերածվեց նեղ խմբակի հարստացման և պետական ռեսուրսների վերահսկողության։

Արդյունքում, հասարակությունը կանգնած է դաժան իրականության առաջ․ խոստացված բարեկեցության փոխարեն՝ ստացավ թանկացած ապրանքներ, նվազած եկամուտներ, քաղաքական ազատությունների սահմանափակում և ազգային արժանապատվության խաթարում։ Փաշինյանի կառավարության խոստումները դարձան կեղծ ու ճոխ պաստառներ, որոնց հետևում թաքնված է երկիրն աղքատության և անապահովության մեջ մխրճող իրականությունը։
