Սեպտեմբերի 14-ին, ժամը 12։30-ի սահմաններում Էջմիածին քաղաքի Մանուշյան 4/4 հասցեում գործող «Ալեքս 33 Պետրոլ» բենզալցակայանում կենցաղային հարցերի շուրջ վիճաբանություն է ծագել Կոտայքի մարզի բնակիչ 23-ամյա Սարգիս Խաչատրյանի և Արմավիրի մարզի բնակիչ 17-ամյա Մաքսիմ Մհոյանի միջև, որից հետո Ս. Խաչատրյանը հեռացել է բենզալցակայանի տարածքից։Ինչպես հայտնում է ֆոտոլրագրող Գագիկ Շամշյանը, քրեական ոստիկանները պարզել են նաև, որ նույն օրը ժամը 23։30-ի սահմաններում Ս․ Խաչատրչյանը և իր ընկերներ, Կոտայքի մարզի բնակիչներ 22-ամյա Կարեն Հակոբյանի, Արմավիրի մարզի բնակիչներ 31-ամյա Էռնեստ Սուքիասյանի և 28-ամյա Վիգեն Սուքիասյանի հետ միասին գնացել են վերը նշված բենզալցակայան, դուրս հրավիրել Մ. Մհոյանին, Արմավիրի մարզի բնակիչ 32-ամյա Մերուժան Մուրադյանին և շարունակել առավոտվա կիսատ թողած իրենց «ռազբորկան», որի ժամանակ այն վերածվել է ծեծկռտուքի ու այդ ժամանակ վիճաբանությանը միջամտել են Արմավիրի մարզի բնակիչներ 52-ամյա Ալեքսան Սարգսյանը, 30-ամյա Գոռ Սարգսյանը, 25-ամյա Վիգեն Ուղուրյանը, 31-ամյա Էրիկ Բաբախանյանը և 21-ամյա Հովհաննես Գեղամյանը, որի ընթացքում Գ. Սարգսյանը վիճաբանության մասնակիցների հետ փոխադարձ հարվածներ հասցնելուց հետո վայր է ընկել և բարձրանալով՝ իր մոտ գտնվող, դեռևս չպարզված ատրճանակից մի քանի անգամ անկանոն կրակոցներ է արձակել:
