«Փաստ» օրաթերթը գրում է.

1970-ականներին ԽՍՀՄ-ում նավթի և գազի արդյունահանման ընդլայնմանը զուգընթաց ավելի ու ավելի շատ հատուկ ավտոբուսների անհրաժեշտություն էր առաջանում՝ երկրաբաններին, շինարարներին և հերթափոխային անձնակազմերին արտադրական հրապարակներ տեղափոխելու համար։

Կլիմայական և ճանապարհային վատ պայմանների պատճառով այդ ժամանակ երկրում արտադրվող սովորական ավտոբուսները հարմար չէին այդ նպատակների համար։ 1978 թվականին Լվովում գտնվող Ավտոբուսաշինության համամիութենական նախագծման և փորձարարական ինստիտուտը սկսեց աշխատանքները «4947» հերթափոխային ավտոբուսի մոդելի ստեղծման ուղղությամբ, որը ենթադրաբար պետք է արտադրվեր Ուրալ-375K–ի շասսիի վրա։ Ավտոմոբիլային արդյունաբերության նախարարությունը հրամայեց Կուրգանի ավտոբուսային գործարանին՝ սկսել այդ հերթափոխային ավտոբուսի արտադրությունը։ Արդյունքում հայտնվեց ԿաՎԶ-4947–1-ը, որը արտադրվել է Կուրգանի ավտոբուսային գործարանում 1980-ականների վերջերից ի վեր։ Այն մշակվել էր ԳԱԶ-53-12 բեռնատարի շասսիի հիման վրա և մի տեսակ ավտոբուսի և բեռնատարի հիբրիդ էր։ 1997 թվականին, «Սպեցգազավտոտրանսի» խնդրանքով, գործարանը սկսեց արտադրել ԿաՎԶ-4224 հերթափոխային ավտոբուսների խմբաքանակ, որը «Ուրալ-4320» շասսիի վրա էր։ Հերթափոխային խմբերի տեղափոխման համար նախատեսված ավտոբուսների շուկայական պահանջարկը բավարարելու համար էլ 1998 թվականին «ԶԻԼ» բեռնատարների շասսիի վրա ստեղծվեց ԿաՎԶ-4229 ընտանիքի հերթական ներկայացուցիչը, որն այդ ժամանակ արտադրվում էր Ուրալի ավտոմոբիլային շարժիչների գործարանի կողմից։ Այնուամենայնիվ, այդ նոր շարքի ավտոբուսներից քիչ են արտադրվել: Ամենատարածվածը՝ ԿաՎԶ49471-ը, նախատեսված էր հիմնականում գյուղական վայրերում աշխատանքի համար և օգտագործվում էր նաև որպես դպրոցական ավտոբուս։ Նրա կառուցվածքը պարզ և հուսալի էր, հարմարեցված վատ ճանապարհներին և դժվար շահագործման պայմաններին։ Կլոր լուսարձակներով և մեծ պատուհաններով վագոնի տիպի թափքը ուներ լակոնիկ դիզայն և կարող էր տեղավորել մոտ 22-25 ուղևոր։ Դպրոցական տարբերակում տեղադրվել էր «ԵՐԵԽԱՆԵՐ» ցուցանակ, իսկ երբեմն առկա էին նաև անվտանգության գոտիներ։

Ավտոբուսի պարզությունը թույլ էր տալիս այն վերանորոգել անգամ սովորական գյուղական արհեստանոցում, ինչը փոքր քաղաքներում և գյուղերում այն դարձրել էր ժողովրդական: Չնայած նրան, որ այն ձմռանը վատ էր ջեռուցվում, ուներ հարմարավետության այլ խնդիրներ ևս, այդուամենայնիվ, օգտագործվել է տասնամյակներ շարունակ։

Անանցանելի գյուղական տարածքում, որտեղ ԿաՎԶ-ն դարձավ 1980-ականների խորհրդանիշերից մեկը, մարդիկ հորինեցին նրա համար զվարճալի մականուն, որը արագ տարածվեց ամբողջ մեծ երկրում։ Փորձառու վարորդները հավանաբար կհիշեն, որ ԽՍՀՄ-ում այդ ավտոբուսը կոչվում էր «Կենտավրոս»։ Իսկ կարո՞ղ եք կռահել, թե ինչու։ Պարզվում է, որ պատասխանը շատ պարզ է։ ԿաՎԶ-ն ստացել էր այդ մականունը, քանի որ այն, ըստ էության, ավտոբուսի և բեռնատարի հիբրիդ էր, այսինքն՝ նման կենտավրոսին (ձի–մարդուն):
