Erkusov.am-ը գրում է, «Ով չի ճաշակել խանդի պատճառած տանջանքը, չի ապրել սեր»… այսպես սիրում են արտահայտվել «դասական» խանդոտները` կարծելով, որ հենց խանդի ուժգնությունն է խոսում սիրո ուժգնության մասին: Իրականում, սակայն, խանդը մարդկային ամենակործանարար, ամենահիվանդագին ու անկառավարելի զգացմունքներից, հոգեվիճակներից մեկն է:

Խանդի էությունն այն է, որ խանդոտ մարդը չի կարող մտքով անգամ պատկերացնել, թե ինքը միակը չէ սիրելիի ինտիմ կյանքում: Դա նշանակում է, որ խանդին մշտապես ուղեկցում են տագնապը, զայրույթը, կասկածը, ատելությունն ու չարությունը, հուսահատությունը և անվերջանալի հոգեկան ցավը: Իսկ ուր է այստեղ սերը: Ընդ որում` տանջվում է ոչ միայն նա, ում խանդում են, այլև հենց խանդողը. նրա կյանքը մշտական, անվերջանալի տառապանք է, քանի որ չկա ունակություն` կառավարելու սեփական զգացմունքները:

Գոյություն ունի 4 տեսակի խանդ` դեպրեսիվ, մանիակալ, պարանոիդալ և բաժանման վախ: Խանդը չի ճանաչում ոչ տարիք, ոչ սեռ: Այն առաջանում է սիրելիին կորցնելու մտավախությունից: Խանդը բնական զգացմունք է` ինչպես վախը, ցավը, չարությունը: Այն բացասական հույզերի մի ամբողջ փունջ է. գործում են և սիրելիին կորցնելու վախը, և վրիժառության, վիրավորանքի, չարության կամ նախանձի զգացումները: Ուստի` խանդը միշտ բացասական ու կործանարար է: Այն կործանում է և ներդաշնակ հարաբերությունները, և սերը:

Խանդը վախն է կորցնելու «սեփականությունդ» (սիրելի էակին): Իսկ վախերով մենք ավելի ենք ձգում այն իրավիճակները, որոնցից ձգտում ենք խուսափել: Ունենալով վախ, թե կկորցնենք մեր սիրելիին` մենք մեր կյանք ենք «ներմուծում» այդ իրավիճակը, տարօրինակ չհնչի, բայց կարծես ենթագիտակցորեն մղում ենք մեր սիրելիին անհավատարմության:
