Ամերիկացի տնտեսագետ, Կոլումբիայի համալսարանի պրոֆեսոր Ջեֆրի Սաքսն անդրադարձել է, այսպես կոչված, «Զանգեզուրի միջանցքին»՝ նշելով «Իրանի հետ սահմանը ՆԱՏՕ-ի վերահսկողությանը հանձնելու Հայաստանի պատրաստակամության» մասին:
«Հայաստանը, ըստ էության, ԱՄՆ-ին ասում է. «Իհարկե, վերցրեք այս հողը, որ գտնվում է Իրանի հետ սահմանին։ Մենք գիտենք, որ պատերազմի մեջ եք Իրանի հետ։ Մենք գիտենք, որ ձեր դաշնակից Իսրայելը պատերազմի մեջ է Իրանի հետ։ Մենք գիտենք, որ Ադրբեջանն Իսրայելի դաշնակիցն է»։
Սա, թվում է, Հայաստանին պատերազմի մեջ ներքաշելու ուղիղ ճանապարհ է։ Անկեղծ ասած, ես չեմ հասկանում, թե ինչ է մտածում Հայաստանի քաղաքական ղեկավարությունը, բայց սա չափազանց սադրիչ և վտանգավոր քայլ է։
Աշխարհաքաղաքական տեսանկյունից սա նշանակում է Հայաստանի փաստացի ներգրավում Իսրայելի կողմից Իրանի դեմ մղվող պատերազմում։ Մնում է միայն մեկ հարց. արդյո՞ք Հայաստանն իսկապես դա է ուզում»,- եզրափակել է Սաքսը։
