Անառողջ ապրելակերպը նվազեցնում է ուղեղում նյարդային ակտիվության հավասարակշռությունը պահպանող գամմա-ամինոկարագաթթվի (GABA) մակարդակը։ Նման եզրակացությանն են հանգել Սանշայն Քոստի համալսարանին առընթեր Թոմփսոնի ինստիտուտի գիտնականները։ Հետազոտության արդյունքները հրապարակվել են Cerebral Cortex բժշկագիտական հանդեսում։
Հետազոտությանը մասնակցել են 79 տարեց մարդիկ, որոնք պահպանել են ճանաչողական գործառույթները։ Օգտագործելով մագնիսառեզոնսային շերտագրությունն ու մագնիսառեզոնսային սպեկտրոսկոպիան, հետազոտողները չափել են քիմիական նյութերի մակարդակը նրանց ուղեղում և համեմատել տվյալները դեմենցիայի անհատական ռիսկի ցուցանիշների հետ։ Այդ ցուցանիշները հաշվարկվել են ապրելակերպի գործոնների հիման վրա, ներառյալ ֆիզիկական ակտիվությունը, քնի որակը, սնունդը և սոցիալական ներգրավվածությունը։
Գիտնականները պարզել են, որ դեմենցիայի բարձր, բայց պոտենցիալ փոփոխելի ռիսկի ենթակա մարդիկ ուղեղի զգայական և շարժիչ հատվածներում ունեցել են GABA-ի ավելի ցածր մակարդակ։ Այդ նյութն ուղեղում գործում է որպես «արգելակային համակարգ»՝ օգնելով կարգավորել չափազանց նյարդային ակտիվությունը։
Նաև նախաճակատային կեղևում, որը պատասխանատու է որոշումների ընդունման և բարդ մտածողության համար, բարձր ռիսկի խմբի մասնակիցներն ունեցել են ընդհանուր N-ացետիլասպարտատի (tNAA) և ընդհանուր խոլինի (tCho) ցածր մակարդակներ, որոնք կարևոր են նյարդային հյուսվածքի առողջության և բջիջների միջև ազդանշանների փոխանցման համար։
Հետազոտության առաջատար հեղինակ, դոկտոր Ջեյքոբ Լևենշտեյնի գնահատմամբ՝ այս նյարդաքիմիական մարկերների նվազումը նշանակալի ճանաչողական խանգարումից զերծ մարդկանց շրջանում կարող է ցույց տալ փոփոխությունների սկիզբը ախտանիշների ի հայտ գալուց շատ առաջ։ Դա լայն հնարավորություններ է բացում դեմենցիայի վաղ հայտնաբերման և կանխարգելման համար։
