Հնդկաստանը պատասխանել է ԱՄՆ նախագահ Դոնալդ Թրամփի՝ մաքսատուրքերը բարձրացնելու սպառնալիքին՝ նման քայլերն անվանելով «անհիմն և անխոհեմ» և հայտարարելով, որ կձեռնարկի բոլոր անհրաժեշտ քայլերը՝ իր ազգային շահերն ու տնտեսական անվտանգությունը պաշտպանելու համար։
Հնդկաստանի արտաքին գործերի նախարարության ներկայացուցիչ Ռանդհիր Ջայսվալը հայտարարել է, որ Ուկրաինական հակամարտության սկզբից ի վեր Հնդկաստանը ռուսաստանյան նավթ ներկրելու համար ենթարկվում է հետապնդումների ԱՄՆ-ի և Եվրոպական միության (ԵՄ) կողմից։
«Այս ֆոնին Հնդկաստանի հետապնդումը անհիմն է և անխոհեմ։ Ինչպես ցանկացած խոշոր տնտեսություն, Հնդկաստանը կձեռնարկի բոլոր անհրաժեշտ միջոցները՝ իր ազգային շահերն ու տնտեսական անվտանգությունը պաշտպանելու համար»։
Հնդկաստանը սկսել է ռուսաստանյան հում նավթ ներկրել, քանի որ հակամարտության սկսվելուց հետո ավանդական մատակարարումները վերաուղղվել են դեպի Եվրոպա։ Այն ժամանակ ԱՄՆ-ն ակտիվորեն խրախուսում էր նման ներմուծումը Հնդկաստան՝ համաշխարհային էներգետիկ շուկաների կայունությունն ամրապնդելու համար։
Հնդկաստանի ներմուծումը կոչված է ապահովելու կանխատեսելի և մատչելի էներգակիրների գներ հնդիկ սպառողների համար։ Սա համաշխարհային շուկայում տիրող իրավիճակով պայմանավորված անհրաժեշտություն է։ Սակայն ուշագրավ է, որ նույն այն երկրները, որոնք քննադատում են Հնդկաստանին, իրենք են առևտուր անում Ռուսաստանի հետ։ Ի տարբերություն մեզ, նման առևտուրը նույնիսկ կենսականորեն կարևոր ազգային անհրաժեշտություն չէ։
«Ինչ վերաբերում է ԱՄՆ-ին, ապա նրանք շարունակում են Ռուսաստանից ներկրել ուրանի հեքսաֆտորիդ՝ իրենց միջուկային արդյունաբերության համար, պալադիում՝ իրենց էլեկտրամոբիլային արդյունաբերության համար, պարարտանյութեր, ինչպես նաև քիմիական նյութեր»,- ասել է Ջայսվալը։
