Վաշինգտոնը դուրս կգա Միավորված ազգերի կազմակերպության կրթական, գիտական և մշակութային կազմակերպությունունից (ՅՈՒՆԵՍԿՕ): ԱՄՆ նախագահ Դոնալդ Թրամփն այս որոշումը կայացրել է, քանի որ ՅՈՒՆԵՍԿՕ-ն «աջակցում է վիճահարույց մշակութային և սոցիալական նախագծերին, որոնք հակասում են առողջ բանականությանը»: Այս մասին հայտարարել է Սպիտակ տան մամուլի քարտուղարի տեղակալ Աննա Քելլին, հաղորդում է The New York Post-ը:
Նրա խոսքով՝ Սպիտակ տունը գնահատում անցկացնելուց հետո եզրակացրել է, որ ՅՈՒՆԵՍԿՕ-ն, մասնավորապես, հավատարիմ է «պաղեստինամետ և չինականամետ» մոտեցումներին:
«Նախագահը միշտ Ամերիկայի շահերը դնելու է առաջին տեղում և կապահովի Ամերիկայի անդամակցությունը բոլոր միջազգային կազմակերպություններին, որոնք սպասարկում են մեր ազգային շահերը», - ասել է Քելլին։
Փետրվարին Թրամփը հրամայել էր իր վարչակազմին 90-օրյա վերանայում անցկացնել ՅՈՒՆԵՍԿՕ-ում ԱՄՆ ներկայության շարունակման նպատակահարմարության վերաբերյալ։
Ավելի վաղ Միացյալ Նահանգները հայտարարել էր, որ դադարեցնում է ՄԱԿ-ի մարդու իրավունքների գրասենյակի որոշ նախագծերի ֆինանսավորումը, այդ թվում՝ Ուկրաինայում: Ծրագրերը կկրճատվեն կամ կփակվեն արտաքին օգնության ծախսերի խոշոր վերանայման շրջանակներում:
