Շվեյցարիան մտադիր է կտրուկ ավելացնել արևային էներգիայի արտադրությունը: Մինչև 2050 թվականը ֆոտովոլտային կայանները և վերականգնվող էներգիայի այլ աղբյուրները պետք է ծածկեն երկրի էլեկտրաէներգիայի պահանջարկի մինչև 60 %-ը:
2024 թվականին, ըստ Էներգետիկայի դաշնային գերատեսչության (Bundesamt für Energie BFE) տվյալների, արևային էներգիայի բաժինը երկրի ընդհանուր էներգաբալանսում կազմել է 7.5 %: Սա գերազանցում է համաշխարհային միջին ցուցանիշը, սակայն զգալիորեն ցածր է այնպիսի երկրներից, ինչպիսիք են Գերմանիան, Իտալիան կամ Ավստրիան:
Հաշվարկների համաձայն՝ կլիմայական նպատակներին հասնելու համար Շվեյցարիան պետք է առնվազն չորս անգամ ավելացնի արևային էլեկտրակայանների հզորությունը: Տեխնիկական տեսանկյունից ամենահարմար վայրերը մնում են շենքերի տանիքները և ճակատները: Եթե դրանց ներուժն ամբողջությամբ օգտագործվի, հնարավոր կլինի արտադրել տասն անգամ ավելի շատ էլեկտրաէներգիա, քան ներկայումս: Սակայն ինժեներական և ճարտարապետական լուծումները չեն սահմանափակվում միայն բնակելի տների կամ առևտրային կենտրոնների տանիքներով: Որոշ նախագծեր առաջարկում են վահանակներ տեղադրել ավելի ոչ ավանդական մակերեսների վրա, ինչը գրավում է միջազգային ուշադրությունը և աշխույժ քննարկումներ առաջացնում Շվեյցարիայում:
Օրինակ, վահանակներ են տեղադրվում երկաթուղային ռելսերի միջև ընկած տարածքում, որտեղ ոչինչ չի կառուցվում, և կա ազատ տարածություն: Այս հարցը մի քանի տարի առաջ իրեն տվել է Ջոզեֆ Սկուդերին՝ շվեյցարական Sun-Ways ստարտափի հիմնադիրը: 2025 թվականի գարնանը նրա գաղափարը իրականություն դարձավ. Շվեյցարիայի արևմտյան Բյութե քաղաքում գտնվող երկաթգծի հատվածում գործարկվեց աշխարհում առաջին շարժական արևային էլեկտրակայանը, որը տեղադրված է անմիջապես ռելսերի միջև:
Վահանակները հեշտությամբ կարելի է հեռացնել, եթե գծի վրա նախատեսվում են վերանորոգման աշխատանքներ: Երեք տարվա ընթացքում ինժեներները կստուգեն, թե ինչպես է արևային կայանը ազդում գնացքների շարժի վրա և արդյոք երթևեկությունը չի խանգարում էներգիայի արտադրությանը: Sun-Ways ընկերությունում կարծում են, որ այս տեխնոլոգիան կարող է կիրառվել աշխարհի երկաթգծերի կեսի վրա: Շվեյցարիայում նման վահանակները կարող են ծածկել երկրի էլեկտրաէներգիայի կարիքների մինչև 2 %-ը:
