«1920–30-ականներին խորհրդային իշխանությունները սկսեցին եկեղեցու ունեցվածքի «ազգայնացում»՝ իրականում փակելով հարյուրավոր եկեղեցիներ։
Էջմիածնի գործունեությունը սաստիկ վերահսկվում էր ՆԿՎԴ-ի կողմից,
հոգևոր առաջնորդները մեծապես ենթարկվում էին ճնշումների, մատնության, սպանության….
Պատմական համատեքստ՝ 1918 թ.
• Օսմանյան բանակը, օգտվելով Ռուսաստանում սկսված հեղափոխությունից և Կովկասում ստեղծված քաոսից, շարժվում էր դեպի Երևան ու Էջմիածին…
Հայոց կաթողիկոս Գևորգ Ե. Սուրենյանցին առաջարկվեց հեռացնել Մայր Աթոռից՝ ապահովության նկատառումներով։ Նա մերժեց՝ ասելով.
«Ես իմ տեղից չեմ հեռանա։ Եթե գան՝ թող ինձ էլ սպանեն իմ գահի վրա»։
Բոլշևիկնրը ունեին մի կրոն ու հավատք. իրենք էին:
Օսմանները( հետո երիտթուրքերը) ունեին մի կրոն ու հավատք. իրենք էին:
դրանից դուրս ամեն բան պետք է ոչնչանար:
Հայի ոգին կոտրելով ու հավատքը՝ իր Աստծու և իր կարողությունների նկատմամբ սասանելով՝ ոչնչացնում ես լիովին:
