Այս տարվա օգոստոսին լրանում է Միացյալ Նահանգներում Հայաստանի դեսպան Լիլիթ Մակունցի պաշտոնավարման ժամկետը։ Դեսպանն արդեն փաստացի երկու ժամկետ զբաղեցրել է դեսպանի պաշտոնը և այժմ, մեծ հավանականությամբ, նրան հետ են կանչելու։ Մակունցն այժմ դիտարկվում է որպես մի անձ, որը հաջողացրել է տապալել հայ-ամերիկյան հարաբերությունները, իր զեկույցների հիման վրա սխալ խաղադրույք է արվել դեմոկրատների վրա, և հանրապետականների հետ այսօր հարաբերությունները ծայրահեղ վատ վիճակում են գտնվում։

Բացի դրանից, Մակունցն ամբողջությամբ ձախողել է սփյուռքի կառույցների, մասնավորապես լոբբիստական կազմակերպությունների, Հայ դատի գրասենյակների հետ աշխատանքը։ Մեր տեղեկություններով, ընդհանրապես նույնիսկ չի էլ շփվում այդ կառույցների հետ և փորձում է պառակտում մտցնել սփյուռքի կառույցների միջև։ Եվ այժմ Փաշինյանի իշխանությունը լրջորեն դիտարկում է Մակունցին հետ կանչելու, նոր դեսպան նշանակելու հարցը, որպեսզի կարողանա փոքր-ինչ բարելավել թե՛ սփյուռքի կառույցների հետ հարաբերությունները և թե՛ ԱՄՆ նոր վարչակազմի հետ շփումները։ Ընդ որում, քննարկվում է 2 տարբերակ՝ քաղաքական և պրոֆեսիոնալ։

Գլխավոր թեկնածուներից մեկը գործող սոցապնախարար Նարեկ Մկրտչյանն է, որը կարողացել է որոշակի հարաբերություններ հաստատել ամերիկյան կողմի հետ, հատկապես հանրապետական վարչախմբի որոշ դեմքերի հետ է մտերմություն ստեղծել, անգամ մասնակցել է նախագահ Թրամփի երդմնակալության արարողությանը։

Միևնույն ժամանակ Փաշինյանին փորձում են համոզել, որ ԱՄՆ-ում դեսպան նշանակի պրոֆեսիոնալ դիվանագետի, որը կկարողանա դասական դիվանագիտության ճանապարհներով հարաբերություններ հաստատել Վաշինգտոնի հետ, նաև կարող է օգուտ բերել միջպետական հարաբերություններում։ Այս պարագայում քննարկվում է ներկայումս Մեծ Բրիտանիայում Հայաստանի դեսպան Վարուժան Ներսիսյանի հարցը։ Վերջինս ժամանակին զբաղեցրել է Ամերիկայի դեսպանի պաշտոնը և բավական արդյունավետ է գործել, սակայն նրան հետագայում հետ կանչեցին և ուղարկեցին Լոնդոն, իսկ ԱՄՆ-ում նշանակումն արեցին քաղաքական նպատակահարմարությամբ, ուստի և այժմ գործող իշխանությունը մտածում է նոր դեսպան նշանակելու մասին, հատկապես որ լոբբիստական մանր կազմակերպությունների ահռելի գումարներ են վճարում, որպեսզի Թրամփի հետ գոնե մի քանի րոպեանոց հանդիպում կազմակերպեն՝ ցույց տալու, թե իբր Փաշինյանը լուրջ հարաբերություններ ունի ԱՄՆ վարչակազմի հետ, առավել ևս, որ խորհրդարանական ընտրությունները սարերի ետևում չեն։
