Գիտնականները մշակել են հատուկ տեխնոլոգիա, որով կկարողանան բանանի եւ բանանի պլանտացիաների մնացորդներից ստանալ տեքստիլ թելեր, կարել հագուստներ, ինչպես նաեւ հիգիենիկ իրեր եւ կեղծամներ։ Այս մասին հայտնում է SciDev.net պարբերականը։ Ավանդաբար ֆերմերները բանանի կեղծ ցողունները թողել են, որպեսզի քայքայվեն ու դառնան պարարտանյութ։ Հիմա արդեն մասնագետները մեթոդ են մշակել, որով կարողանում են փափկացնել բնական կոշտ թելերը՝ դարձնելով պիտանի հետագա օգտագործման համար։ Գիտափորձերը ցույց են տվել, որ այս առումով հատկապես արժեքավոր են ուգանդական Kayinja բանանի մնացորդները, որից ստացված թելերը շատ ամուր են, եւ իդեալական կարող են օգտագործվել տեքստիլ արդյունաբերության մեջ։ Գիտնականները նշում են, որ իրենց հայտնագործությունը կարող է ոլորտի համար դառնալ հեղափոխական, քանի որ մնացորդները, որոնք աղբ են հանդիսանում, վերածվում են եկամուտների եւ բացի այդ՝ աշխարհին առաջարկվում է բամբակի այլընտրանք։ Չնայած այս ամենին, հայտնագործությունը դեռեւս հնարավոր չի լինի ներդնել արդյունաբերության մեջ, քանի որ Ուգանդայում, որտեղ իրականացվել են գիտափորձերն ու կատարվել այս գիտական հայտնագործությունը, կենսատեխնոլոգիաների մասին օրենք չկա եւ հնարավոր չի լինի բանանի սորտերը գենետիկ առումով օպտիմիզացնել։ Բացի այդ, բանանի թել հասկացություն միջազգային ապրանքային դասակարգման համակարգում դեռ գոյություն չունի։
