Ռուբեն Վարդանյանի ընտանիքը ցավակցական ուղերձ է հղել համայն աշխարհի կաթոլիկներին և Սուրբ Աթոռին կոչ է արել հետամուտ լինել Ֆրանցիսկոս Պապի ժառանգությանը` ջանքեր ներդնելով հայ գերիների ազատ արձակման ուղղությամբ.

«Վարդանյանների ընտանիքը խորին ցավակցություն է հայտնում համայն աշխարհի կաթոլիկ հավատացյալներին։

Մեր մտքերը Սուրբ Պետրոսի հրապարակում հավաքվածների և աշխարհի բոլոր կաթոլիկների հետ են։

Սուրբ Աթոռին կոչ ենք անում Ֆրանցիսկոս Պապի ժառանգությունը հարգելով՝ քայլեր ձեռնարկել անարդար կերպով կալանավորված 23 հայ գերիների, այդ թվում՝ մեր հոր՝ Ռուբեն Վարդանյանի ազատ արձակման ուղղությամբ։ Սուրբ Աթոռը կարող է կարևոր դեր ունենալ գերիների ազատ արձակմանն ուղղված դիվանագիտական ջանքերում՝ արդարության և մարդկային արժանապատվության հանդեպ Ֆրանցիսկոս Պապի նվիրվածությանը հավատարիմ մնալու համար: Նրանց շարունակական կալանքը հակասում է խաղաղության և հաշտության այն սկզբունքներին, որոնց Ֆրանցիսկոս Պապը մշտապես հետամուտ էր իր գահակալության ընթացքում»։

Ինչպես ինքն է հայտարարել. «Կրոնները չեն կարող օգտագործվել պատերազմի համար։ Սուրբ է միայն խաղաղությունը»։

Մենք կոչ ենք անում Եկեղեցուն գործնականում կիրառել այս խոսքերը՝ սատարելով հայ գերիների անհապաղ ազատ արձակման մեր պահանջը: Այս քրիստոնյաներն արժանի են հալածանքներից պաշտպանություն ստանալուն. նրանք այսօր բախվել են դժվարությունների իրենց հավատքի պատճառով։

Գործելու ժամանակը հիմա է։
