Ватикан раскрыл последние слова Папы Франциска, который скончался накануне утром на 89-м году жизни. Как сообщает издание Vatican News, незадолго до смерти понтифик поблагодарил своего медбрата Массимилиано Страппетти за возможность еще раз увидеться с верующими: «Спасибо, что отвезли меня на площадь».
Речь шла о поездке в «папамобиле» по площади Святого Петра в день Пасхи. Несмотря на слабость, Франциск сам попросил вывезти его к людям, передает Bild. По информации Vatican News, перед выходом он спросил у Страппетти: «Как ты думаешь, я справлюсь?» Через несколько минут он уже ехал среди толпы, благословляя младенцев.
Утром в понедельник, примерно за час до смерти, Франциску стало плохо. Он помахал на прощание Страппетти, впал в кому и в 7:35 утра скончался. Врачи подтвердили смерть от последствий инсульта.
