ԱՄՆ նախագահ Դոնալդ Թրամփը ռուս-ուկրաինական պատերազմը դիտարկում է որպես ձգձգված, փակուղային հակամարտություն, որը պետք է ավարտել. այս մասին Fox News-ին ասել է ԱՄՆ պետքարտուղար Մարկո Ռուբիոն:
«Անկեղծ ասած՝ սա միջնորդավորված (պրոքսի) պատերազմ է միջուկային տերությունների՝ Ուկրաինային օգնող ԱՄՆ-ի և ՌԴ-ի միջև: Այն պետք է ավարտել: Եվ ոչ ոք այն ավարտին հասցնելու գաղափար կամ ծրագիր չունի։ Մինչ այժմ ուկրաինացիների և Կապիտոլիումում նրանց դաշնակիցների և այլ երկրների ծրագիրը հետևյալն է՝ եկեք շարունակենք նրանց տալ այնքան (օգնություն), որքան անհրաժեշտ է և այնքան ժամանակ, որքան պատերազմը կշարունակվի: Դա ռազմավարություն չէ», - ասել է պետքարտուղարը:
Ռուբիոն ընդգծել է, որ թեև ՌԴ-ն մեծ երկիր է, այնուամենայնիվ այն ևս խնդիրներ ունի, ուստի իրավիճակը փակուղային է:
«Սա բացատրվել է բոլորին և շատ պարզ: Այն ամենը, ինչ նախագահը փորձում է անել այստեղ, պարզելն է, թե արդյոք կա ճանապարհ դեպի խաղաղություն: Մենք պետք է ներգրավենք երկու կողմերին՝ ռուսներին և ուկրաինացիներին։ Մենք ուկրաինացիներին խնդրեցինք դա չսաբոտաժի ենթարկել։ Երբ փոխնախագահը շեշտեց, որ դիվանագիտություն է պահանջվելու նման բաները լուծելու համար, նախագահ Զելենսկին, ցավոք, որոշում կայացրեց մարտահրավեր նետել փոխնախագահին և սկսել կասկածի տակ դնել, թե արդյոք դիվանագիտությունը նույնիսկ հնարավոր է՝ ըստ էության սաբոտաժի ենթարկելով և խարխլելով նախագահի ծրագիրը», - ասել է Ռուբիոն՝ նկատի ունենալով փետրվարի 28-ին Սպիտակ տանը Թրամփի, փոխնախագահ Ջեյ Դի Վենսի և Զելենսկիի միջև տեղի ունեցած թեժ լեզվակռիվը։

Հակամարտության լուծումը զիջումներ կպահանջի երկու կողմերից, բայց պետք է երկուսն էլ սեղանի շուրջ նստեն: Ակնհայտ է, որ ուկրաինացիները պետք է այնտեղ լինեն: Դա իրենց երկիրն է: Ռուսները պետք է լինեն սեղանի շուրջ։ Եվ միայն նախագահ Թրամփը կարող է դա հնարավոր դարձնել», - եզրափակել է նա:
