Եվրահանձնաժողովի նախագահ Ուրսուլա ֆոն դեր Լայենը առաջիններից էր, որ դուրս եկավ դահլիճից և դարձավ առաջին եվրոպացի առաջնորդը, որն արտահայտվեց Լոնդոնի գագաթնաժողովից հետո, գրում է The Guardian-ը։

Ըստ նրա, առաջնորդները «լավ և անկեղծ քննարկում» են անցկացրել այն մասին, թե ինչ է անհրաժեշտ Ուկրաինային ամուր դիրք զբաղեցնելու համար:

Եվրահանձնաժողովի ղեկավարը նշել է, որ Ուկրաինային անհրաժեշտ են «անվտանգության համապարփակ երաշխիքներ», որոնք կպաշտպանեն նրա տնտեսական և ռազմական դիրքերը։

Նա ասել է, որ Եվրոպան հրատապ վերազինելու անհրաժեշտություն կա, և որ Եվրահանձնաժողովը մարտի 6-ին այս հարցով ծրագիր կառաջարկի Եվրոպական խորհրդին, քանի որ, ըստ նրա, «մենք իսկապես պետք է լուրջ քայլեր ձեռնարկենք»:

«Այժմ խիստ կարևոր է մեծացնել ներդրումները պաշտպանության ոլորտում երկար ժամանակով: Սա անհրաժեշտ է Եվրամիության անվտանգության համար, և մենք պետք է... աշխարհառազմավարական պայմաններում, որտեղ մենք ապրում ենք, պատրաստվենք վատագույնին և, հետևաբար, ամրապնդենք մեր պաշտպանությունը»,- ասել է Եվրահանձնաժողովի ղեկավարը։

Պատասխանելով  ԱՄՆ-ին ուղղված իր ուղերձի մասին հարցին՝ նա ասել է․ «Մենք պատրաստ ենք  ձեզ հետ միասին պաշտպանել  ժողովրդավարությունը և օրենքի գերակայության սկզբունքը, որի համաձայն, դուք չեք կարող ներխուժել... և ահաբեկել ձեր հարևանին կամ ուժի միջոցով փոխել սահմանները»:
