Սևանա լճի հասակը հաշվվում է մոտ 25 հազար տարի,
Սևանա լիճ են թափվում 30 գետ և գետակ (այդ թվում՝ երկու խոշոր աղբյուրներ), որոնց գումարային ելքը կազմում է 24.0 խոր.մ/վրկ, ամենաջրառատ գետն Արգիճին է 5.38 խոր.մ/վրկ տարեկան միջին ելքով,
Բնական վիճակում Սևանա լիճ մուտք գործող ջրի 92% -ը գոլորշանում է,
Լճի երկարությունը մեծ առանցքով Ձկնագետի գետաբերանից (հյուսիս-արևմուտքում) մինչև Ծովակ գյուղը (հարավ-արևելքում) կազմում է 74 կմ, միջին լայնությունը 19.2կմ (ամենամեծ լայնությունը առանցքի նկատմամբ 32կմ է),
Սևանա լիճը հանքայնացման մակարդակով դասակարգվում է որպես քաղցրահամ լիճ, լճի ջուրը պատկանում է հիդրոկարբոնատային դասի մագնեզիումային խմբի առաջին տիպին,
Դիտարկումների պատմական տվյալների համաձայն, տարեկան կտրվածքով Սևանա լճի մակարդակն ամենից շատ՝ 131 սմ-ով, իջել է 1961 թվականին, իսկ ամենից շատ բարձրացել է 1988 թվականին՝ 72 սմ-ով,
Հայաստանում մեկ տարվա ընթացքում ձևավորվող վերականգնվող ջրային ռեսուրսները (գետային հոսքը) համարժեք է Սևանա լճի մոտ 6 մ հաստությամբ ջրի շերտի,
Լճում ափասառույց ձևավորվում է ամեն տարի, սակայն լիճը համատարած սառույցով ծածկվում է ոչ ամեն տարի: Վերջին տարիներին ամենաինտենսիվ համատարած սառեցում դիտվել է 2008 թվականին,
Սևանա լճի ջրի ջերմաստիճանը մակերևույթին տարվա մեջ միջինը կազմում է շուրջ 9.0˚C, ամռան-աշնան ընթացքում շուրջ 80-100 օր մակերևութային շերտը ունի ավելի քան 18˚C ջերմաստիճան,
Մինչև մակարդակի արհեստական իջեցումը, Բայկալ, Ժնև, Իսիկ-Կուլ լճերի հետ միասին համարվել է աշխարհի ամենաթափանցիկ լճերից մեկը, թափանցիկությունը բնական վիճակում կազմել է շուրջ 21մ։
