ՇՄՆ «Հիդրոօդերևութաբանության և մոնիթորինգի կենտրոն» ՊՈԱԿ-ի տնօրեն Լևոն Ազիզյանը գրում է.
«Սանտա-Անա՝ Կալիֆորնիայի հրդեհների տարածման գլխավոր պատճառ
Նախնական հաշվարկներով՝ Լոս Անջելեսում տեղի ունեցած տարերային աղետի վնասն արդեն գերազանցել է 50 միլիարդ դոլարը։
Չոր, շատ տաք և քամոտ եղանակը նպաստում է հրդեհների տարածմանը։ Տարվա սկզբից Լոս Անջելեսում տեղումներ չեն եղել, անցյալ դեկտեմբերին թափվել են միայն ամսական նորմայի մոտ 1%-ի չափով տեղումներ, իսկ վերջին 4 օրվա ընթացքում ջերմաստիճանը +22°-ից բարձր է եղել։ Միաժամանակ շարունակում են փչել Սանտա-Անայի քամիները՝ ուղղված Կալիֆոռնիայի և Նևադայի ներքին շրջանների անապատներից մինչև Խաղաղ օվկիանոս։ Նրանք կրում են չոր և տաք օդային զանգվածներ և ստեղծում են պայմաններ, որոնց դեպքում փոքրիկ կայծը կարող է վերածվել մոլեգնող կրակի։
Սանտա-Անան կատաբատիկ քամի է Հարավային Կալիֆորնիայում: Ուժեղ, պարբերական քամիները չոր օդը տեղափոխում են Մեծ Ավազանի բարձրավանդակի շրջանից դեպի ցամաքի ներս՝ Հարավային և Ներքին Կալիֆորնիայի ափեր: Քամիների մեծ մասը փչում է աշնանը և ձմռանը, թեև դրանք տեղի են ունենում նաև տարվա այլ ժամանակներում: Աշնանը Սանտա-Անայի քամիները շատ շոգ և չափազանց չոր եղանակի կարճ ժամանակահատվածներ են բերում ափ:
Ի՞նչ է կատաբատիկ քամին: Կատաբատիկ քամի (հունարեն κατάβασις, կատաբասիս - վայրէջք, նվազում), օդի հոսք, որն ուղղված է երկրի մակերևույթի լանջերով ներքև (լեռնանցքներից), ինչպես նաև ցուրտ օդի իջնող հոսքեր կույտա-անձրևային ամպերի մեջ:
Լանջերով ներքև փչող ոչ բոլոր քամիներն են կատաբատիկ: Օրինակ, քամիները, ինչպիսիք են ֆյոնը, շինուկը կամ բերգվինդը, անձրևային ստվերային քամիներ են, որտեղ օդը կորցնում է խոնավությունը, երբ բարձրանում է լեռնաշղթայի հողմահայաց լանջով և իջնում է հողմահակառակ լանջ՝ չոր և տաք: Կատաբատիկ քամին բերում է լեռան ստորոտում օդի սառեցում, որը չի փոխհատուցվում օդային զանգվածների իջեցման դեպքում ադիաբատիկ տաքացմամբ։ Կատաբատիկ քամիները կարող են հասնել փոթորիկների արագության՝ Մակ-Մյորդոյի(Անտարկտիդա) չոր հովտում դրանք արագանում են մինչև 320 կմ/ժ:
Կատաբատիկ քամիները հայտնի են բազմաթիվ լեռնային երկրներում և ափերում, ոմանք ունեն իրենց սեփական անվանումները: Նորվեգիայում այս քամին անվանում են էլվեգուստ, Ռիո դե Ժանեյրոյում՝ տեռռե-ալտոս, Ճապոնիայում՝ օրոսի, Կալիֆորնիայի հարավում՝ Սանտա-Անա, Գրենլանդիայում՝ Պիտեռակ։ Առավել հստակ արտահայտված են բորան, սառցադաշտային քամին, հոսքային քամին, միստրալը և այլն»։
