Президент Турции Реджеп Тайип Эрдоган в ходе встречи с главой Еврокомиссии Урсулой фон дер Ляйен заявил о необходимости «укреплять институциональные отношения между Турцией и ЕС», пишет Euronews.

Президент Турции отметил, что стороны могут «продвигать сотрудничество по беспроигрышной формуле».

На переговорах с фон дер Ляйен Эрдоган призвал лидеров ЕС, которые соберутся в четверг на однодневный саммит, снять «все ограничения» в двусторонних отношениях, возобновить политический диалог на высоком уровне (приостановленный с 2019 года) и расширить соглашение о таможенном союзе (разрабатывается с 2016 года).

«Наши общие интересы не должны зависеть от ограничительных программ некоторых членов», - сказал Эрдоган, ссылаясь, вероятно, на Грецию и Кипр - страны с которыми у Турции исторически сложились напряженные отношения.

Наблюдатели отмечают, что сегодня Анкара находится в сильной позиции. Она является главным сторонником Сирийской национальной армии, оппозиционной группировки, которая участвовала в свержении режима Асада. За последние дни Турцию посетили несколько высокопоставленных гостей, среди них, помимо фон дер Ляйен - премьер-министр Венгрии Виктор Орбан и госсекретарь США Энтони Блинкен.

Турция - кандидат на вступление в ЕС с 1999 года, после множества взлетов и падений в 2018 году ее заявку на членство приостановили. Как пояснили в Брюсселе - из-за за продолжающегося отката от демократии.
