Դամասկոսում իշխանության եկած զինված խմբավորումների առաջնորդ Ահմեդ ալ-Շարաան (հայտնի է Աբու Մուհամմեդ ալ-Ջուլանի մականունով) միջազգային հանրությանը կոչ է արել դադարեցնել «իսրայելական էսկալացիան» Սիրիայում։ Այս մասին նա հայտարարել է Սիրիա հեռուստաալիքի եթերում, փոխանցում է ՏԱՍՍ-ը։
«Իսրայելի փաստարկները թույլ են դարձել և չեն արդարացնում վերջինիս խախտումները», - ասել է ալ-Շարաան՝ ընդգծելով, որ Իսրայելը «խախտել է Սիրիայի հետ սահմանազատման գիծը» Գոլանի բարձունքներում։
Սիրիայի նոր իշխանությունների առաջնորդը կոչ է արել «միջազգային հանրությանը միջամտել և պատասխանատվություն ստանձնել այս սրման համար»՝ ընդգծելով «տարածաշրջանում իրավիճակի վերահսկման և Սիրիայի ինքնիշխանության հարգման կարևորությունը»։
Ըստ Ալ-Շարաայի՝ «դիվանագիտական լուծումներն անվտանգության և կայունության ապահովման միակ միջոցն են»։
Նա հավելել է, որ Սիրիայում տիրող իրավիճակը «երկար տարիների պատերազմից հետո թույլ չի տալիս նոր հակամարտությունների մեջ մտնել»։
Դեկտեմբերի 8-ին իսրայելական զինվորականները վերահսկողության տակ են վերցրել Գոլանի բարձունքներում գտնվող Հերմոն լեռնաշղթայի սիրիական կողմը՝ առանց դիմադրության հանդիպելու։ Իսրայելի վարչապետ Բենիամին Նեթանյահուի խոսքով՝ Սիրիայի հետ 1974 թվականին ստորագրված ուժի բաժանման համաձայնագիրը անվավեր է դարձել, քանի որ սիրիական զորքերը Դամասկոսում իշխանափոխությունից հետո լքել են տարածքը։ Իսրայելի ռազմաօդային ուժերը շարունակում են հարձակումները Սիրիայում ռազմական օբյեկտների վրա։
