Ի պատասխան բազմամյա քննադատությունների, թե լեգենդար Բարբի տիկնիկների կազմվածքն անհամապատասխան է մարդկային կազմվածքին, Mattel ընկերությունը որոշել է կատարել հեղափոխական քայլ ու թողարկել է խաղալիքների մի քանի նոր վարկածներ:
Mattel-ի պաշտոնական կայքում դասական Բարբիների հետ արդեն իրենց տեղն են զբաղեցրել 2 նոր տիկնիկներ: Նրանցից մեկը plus-size չափի է՝ գիրուկ, երկրորդը բարեկազմ է, ոչ բարձրահասակ, երրորդը՝ բարձրահասակ ու լայն ուսերով:
Բարբին միշտ քննադատվել է, քանի որ ասվում է,որ այն բացասաբար է ազդում դեռահասների իդեալների վրա:
Այսպես, կենդանի Բարբին ոչինչ չէր կարողանա բարձրացնել, ներառյալ սեփական գլուխը, քանի որ 175 սմ հասակի պարագայում նրա քաշը կկազմեր ընդամենը 49 կգ: Քաշի նման պաթոլոգիկ պակասությունը միանգամից կառաջացներ կանանց մոտ վերարտադրողական ֆունկցիայի բացակայության, ծերացման արագ գործընթացի:
