Երբ աշխարհում գործածվեց Արևմտյան Հայաստան տերմինը, մարդկությանը հայտնի չէին կովկասյան թաթարները

ՀՀԿ խոսնակ Էդուարդ Շարմազանովը գրում է․ «Երբ 387թ. աշխարհում սկսվեց գործածվել Արեւմտյան Հայաստան տերմինը, մարդկությանը հայտնի չէին ոչ թուրքերը եւ ոչ էլ իրենց ադրբեջանցի անվանող կովկասյան թաթարները։
Արեւմտյան Հայաստանը քաղաքական,պատմական ու գիտական եզրույթ է։ Այն սկսվել է գործածվել 387թ․, Հայաստանի առաջին բաժանումից հետո՝ Հռոմի եւ Պարսկաստանի միջեւ։ «Արևմտյան» է կոչվել Հայաստանի՝ Հռոմին անցած տարածքը (որտեղ էլ որպես թագավոր է կարգվում Արշակ Գ-ն՝ Պապի որդին), որն իր մեջ ներառում էր Բարձր Հայք, Ծոփք և Աղձնիք նահանգները։
591 թվականին տեղի է ունենում Հայաստանի երկրորդ բաժանումը՝ Բյուզանդիայի ու Պարսկաստանի միջեւ, որի արդյունքում Բյուզանդիային են անցնում նաև Տուրուբերանը, Տայքը և Այրարատի մեծ մասը։
11-րդ դարի կեսերից Հայաստան են առաջին անգամ ներթափանցում սելջուկ-թուրքերը։ Իսկ 13-րդ դարի առաջին կեսից Հայաստանը ասպատակվում է մոնղոլների, իսկ այնուհետեւ աղկոյունլուների ու կարակոյունլիւների կողմից։
Ամբողջ 16-րդ դարն ու 17-րդ դարի առաջին կեսը Հայաստանին տիրելու համար պայքար էր մղվում Օսմանյան Թուրքիայի ու Սեֆյան Պարսկաստանի միջեւ։ Օսմանցի թուրքերը, որոնք Հայկական լեռնաշխարհի արևմտյան հատվածները ասպատակելուց և նվաճելուց հետո 1555 թ. հաշտություն են կնքում Սեֆյան Պարսկաստանի հետ։ Ըստ Ամասիայի պայմանագրի/1555թ./ Թուրքիային էր անցնում ամբողջ Արևմտյան Հայաստանը՝ Էրզրում կենտրոնով։ Սահմանագիծը սկսվում էր Հայկական լեռնաշխարհի կենտրոնական հատվածից՝ հասնելով մինչև Եփրատ գետ։
Հայաստանի չորրորդ բաժանումը տեղի է ունենում 1639 թ.։
Թուրքիայի տիրապետության տակ գտնվող Արեւմտյան Հայաստանին է միացվում Կարսի շրջակայքն ու Վանը, իսկ Սեֆյան Պարսկաստանին՝ Արևելյան Հայաստանը։ Ժամանակի ընթացքում Արևմտյան Հայաստան անվանումը սկսում է վերաբերվել Արաքս գետի ձախափնյակում ընկած հայկական տարածքներին՝ գլխավորապես նախկին Օսմանյան կայսրության կազմում գտնվող վեց վիլայեթներին։
Սա է իրականությիւնը։
Ի՞նչ Ադրբեջան, ի՞նչ Արեւմտյան Ադրբեջան։ Ադրբեջան անունով պետության մասին աշխարհն առաջին անգամ իմացել է 1918-ի մայիսին ,բայց հրաժարվել է այն ճանաչել։ Քանի որ այն արհեստական անվանում ուներ ու ոչ հստակ տարածքներ։ Դրա մասին է վկայում 1920-ի դեկտեմբերի 1-ի Ազգերի Լիգայի որոշումը։
Միայն թուրք-ադրբեջանական շահ սպասարկողը կամ կատարյալ անգրագետը կարող է զուգահեռներ տանել Արեւմտյան Հայաստանի ու ինչ-որ «արեւմտյան ադրբեջանի» միջեւ»։
