Избранный президент США Дональд Трамп в среду выдвинул кандидатуру юриста Мэтью Уитакера на пост постоянного представителя США при НАТО, выбрав лоялиста с небольшим опытом работы во внешней политике, сообщает Reuters.
«Мэтт - сильный воин и верный патриот, который обеспечит продвижение и защиту интересов Соединенных Штатов. Мэтт укрепит отношения с нашими союзниками по НАТО и будет твердо стоять перед лицом угроз миру и стабильности - он поставит АМЕРИКУ на ПЕРВОЕ место», - говорится в заявлении Трампа. Уитакер, который в течение трех месяцев исполнял обязанности генерального прокурора во время президентского срока Трампа в 2017-2021 годах, активно сотрудничал с институтом America First Policy Institute, аналитическим центром правого толка, который работал над формированием политики на второй срок Трампа. Уитакер известен как один из самых ярых критиков расследования специальным прокурором США контактов между успешной президентской кампанией Трампа в 2016 году и российскими официальными лицами.
