Հարվարդի Պալեոմագնիսական լաբորատորիայի գիտնականները Nature Communications գիտական ամսագրում հրապարակել են նոր աշխատություն, որում պնդում են, որ Մարսը կարող էր մագնիսական դաշտ ունենալ, որը կարող էր կյանքի համար նպաստավոր պայմաններ պահպանել մինչև մոտ 3,9 միլիարդ տարի առաջ: Այս հայտնագործությունը հակասում է գնահատականների՝ նախկինում տված գնահատականներին, ըստ որոնց՝ Մարսի մագնիսական դաշտն անհետացել է հարյուր միլիոնավոր տարիներ առաջ։
Հետազոտությունը ղեկավարել է Արվեստների և գիտությունների բարձրագույն դպրոցի ուսանող Սառա Սթիլը, որը Մարսի գլոբալ մագնիսական դաշտի տարիքը գնահատելու համար կիրառել է համակարգչային մոդելավորում: Թիմը ջանքերը կենտրոնացրել է մի տեսության վրա, որը նրանք առաջին անգամ առաջ են քաշել անցյալ տարի․ տեսությունն այն մասին է, որ Մարսի մագնիսական դաշտը գոյություն ունի ավելի երկար, քան ենթադրում է գնահատականների գերակշիռ մասը։
Նրանց մոտ այս գաղափարը զարգացել է Մարսի մակերևույթի խոշոր խառնարանների սառեցման և մագնիսացման ցիկլերը նմանակող փորձերից հետո: Հայտնի է, որ այս խառնարաններն ունեն թույլ մագնիսական դաշտ, և հետազոտողները ենթադրել են, որ դրանք ձևավորվել են մոլորակի գլոբալ մագնիսական դաշտի թուլացումից հետո: Այնուամենայնիվ, Հարվարդի թիմը պնդում է, որ դա անհրաժեշտ պայման չէ այս՝ հիմնականում ապամագնիսացված խառնարանների գոյությունը բացատրելու համար:
Սթիլն ասում է, որ իրենց արդյունքները հիմնված են նախորդ աշխատանքների վրա, որոնք առաջին անգամ փոխել են Մարսի վրա կյանքի համար բարենպաստ պայմանների առկայության վերաբերյալ ներկայիս ժամկետը: Նրանք օգտագործել են Allan Hills 84001 մարսյան երկնաքարը և քվանտային ադամանդե հզոր մանրադիտակը, որոնք օգնել են ենթադրություն անել ավելի երկար ժամանակի՝ մինչև 3,9 միլիարդ տարի առաջ գոյություն ունեցած մագնիսական դաշտի մասին։
«Մենք փորձում ենք պատասխանել հիմնական, կարևոր հարցերին այն մասին, թե ինչպես ամեն ինչ դարձավ այնպիսին, ինչպիսին է, և նույնիսկ ինչու է ամբողջ Արեգակնային համակարգը այնպիսին, ինչպիսին է: Մոլորակային մագնիսական դաշտերը մեր լավագույն «զոնդն» են այս հարցերից շատերին պատասխանելու համար, և այն քիչ ուղիներից մեկը, որով մենք կարող ենք իմանալ մոլորակների խորքերի և վաղ պատմության մասին»,- ասել է Սթիլը:
