«Եղիշեն իր մատյանը սկսում է կարևորագույն հռչակումով՝ նախապատրաստելով մեր միտքը հետագա ընթացքի համար. «Նրանք, ում հոգիները թուլացած են երկնավոր առաքինությունից, սաստիկ երկյուղի մեջ է ընկած նրանց մարմնի բնությունը՝ ամեն հողմից շարժվում է, ամեն խոսքից վրդովվում է, ամեն բանից՝ դողում։ Այդպիսի մարդը երազական բաներով իր կյանքը անցկացնում է, իսկ մահվան ժամանակ էլ անդառնալի կորստյան է մատնվում։ Ինչպես որ հնում մեկն ասել է՝ մահ չիմացյալ մահ է, մահ իմացյալ՝ անմահություն։ Ով որ չգիտե, թե ինչ է մահը՝ վախենում է մահից, իսկ ով գիտե մահը՝ նրանից չի վախենում»։
Ինչո՞ւ է այս մասին խոսում, որովհետև նախապատրաստում է մեզ, նախապատրաստում է մեծ, կարևոր գաղափարի, որ կյանքը ինքնաբուն, ինքնին գերագույն արժեքը չէ, այլ այդ կյանքի մեջ ստեղծված կարևորագույն գաղափարներն են, որի համար դու կյանքդ կարող ես նույնիսկ զոհել։
Անընդհատ շեշտվում է, որ կյանքը գերագույն արժեք է, բայց կյանքը գերագույն պարգև է, իսկ գերագույն արժեքն այդ կյանքի միջից ծնվող երևույթները, գաղափարները, սկզբունքներն են՝ պետությունը, Հայրենիքը, ընտանիքը։
Արժեքները սրանք են, որոնց ծառայության է կոչված կյանքը և ոչ թե կյանքը կոչված է կյանքին ծառայության։ Այս մասին է խոսում Եղիշեն, ասում է՝ նրանք, ովքեր մահը չեն ճանաչում՝ վախենում են, երկյուղի մեջ են, հոգիները կապված չեն երկնավոր առաքինություններին, գաղափարներին, արժեքներին, նրանք պատասխանատվությունից և մյուս բոլոր արժեքներից խուսափելու և կյանքը խոտի արժեք դարձնելու կոչված մարդիկ են։ Իրենք կարծում են՝ դա հեշտ կյանքն է, բայց դա դժնդակ տառապանք է։
