Հյուսիսային Կորեան չորեքշաբթի հայտարարել է, որ մշտապես փակելու է Հարավային Կորեայի հետ իր սահմանը և ստեղծելու է առաջադեմ պաշտպանական միջոցներ՝ Հարավային Կորեայի և ԱՄՆ զինվորականների «առճակատման հիստերիայի» դեմ պայքարելու համար, սակայն պաշտոնապես Հարավային Կորեան իր գլխավոր թշնամին համարելու և նոր ազգային սահմաններ ապահովելու նպատակով ակնկալվող սահմանադրական վերանայման մասին չի հայտարարի:
Թեև այդ քայլերը, հավանաբար, ճնշման տակտիկա էին, պարզ չէ, թե ինչպես դրանք կազդեն Հարավային Կորեայի հետ հարաբերությունների վրա, քանի որ անդրսահմանային ուղևորությունները և փոխանակումները երկար տարիներով դադարեցվել են: Հյուսիսային Կորեայի զինվորականները հայտարարել են, որ ամբողջովին կկտրեն Հարավային Կորեայի հետ կապող ճանապարհներն ու երկաթուղիները, և համապատասխան տարածքները կամրապնդեն հզոր պաշտպանական կառույցներով, հայտնել է Հյուսիսային Կորեայի պաշտոնական Կենտրոնական լրատվական գործակալությունը:
Հյուսիսային Կորեայի զինվորականներն իրենց գործողությունները որակել են «ինքնապաշտպանական միջոց՝ պատերազմը կանխելու և երկրի անվտանգությունը պաշտպանելու համար»:
Ըստ երկրի պաշտպանական գերատեսչության հայտարարության՝ «թշնամական ուժերը գնալով ավելի անխոհեմ են դառնում իրենց առճակատման հիստերիայում»՝ հիշեցնելով Հարավային Կորեայում անցկացվող զորավարժությունները, ԱՄՆ ռազմավարական օբյեկտների տեղակայումը։
Իր հերթին, Հարավային Կորեայի զինված ուժերը հայտարարել են, որ չեն հանդուրժի Հյուսիսային Կորեայի կողմից ստատուս քվոն փոխելու որևէ փորձ։ Հարավային Կորեան հայտարարել է, որ «խստորեն կպատժի Հյուսիսային Կորեային, եթե վերջինս սադրանքներ ձեռնարկի»։
Ըստ Associated Press գործակալության՝ Հարավային Կորեայի զինվորականները միաժամանակ հայտարարության մեջ նշել են, որ Հյուսիսային Կորեայի միջուկային և հրթիռային ծրագրերը սպառնում են խաղաղությանը Կորեական թերակղզում։
