Մեծ Բրիտանիայի թագուհի Եղիսաբեթ Երկրորդին (1952-2022) մահից առնվազն մեկ տարի առաջ տառապում էր ոսկորների քաղցկեղից։ Դրա մասին հայտարարել է Միացյալ Թագավորության 2019-2022 թվականներին վարչապետի պաշտոնը զբաղեցրած Բորիս Ջոնսոնն իր Unleashed հուշերում, որոնք վաճառքում կհայտնվեն հոկտեմբերին, և որոնցից հատվածներ է մեջբերում The Daily Mail պարբերականը։

«Ես մեկ կամ ավելի տարի գիտեի, որ նա ոսկորների քաղցկեղ ունի: Թագուհու բժիշկներն անհանգստացած էին, որ նրա վիճակը ցանկացած պահի կարող է կտրուկ վատթարանալ, ասել է բրիտանական կառավարության նախկին ղեկավարը։ - Նա կարծես գունատ և ավելի կծկված էր: Ձեռքերի և դաստակների վրա մուգ կապտուկներ ուներ, հավանաբար ներերակային կամ ներարկումներից»։ Միևնույն ժամանակ Ջոնսոնը նշել է, որ նույնիսկ 2022 թվականի սեպտեմբերի 6-ին՝ իր մահից երկու օր առաջ, Էլիզաբեթ Երկրորդն, վարչապետի պաշտոնից ընդունելով նրա հրաժարականը, դրսևորել է իր խորաթափանցությունը։

Եղիսաբեթ Երկրորդը վախճանվել է 2022 թվականի սեպտեմբերի 8-ին 96 տարեկան հասակում Շոտլանդիայի Բալմորալ ամրոցում։ Նա թագավորեց ամենաերկարը բրիտանական պատմության մեջ՝ 70 տարի և 7 ամիս: Թագուհու մահվան վկայականը, որը հրապարակել է  Շոտլանդիայի ազգային ռեկորդների ծառայությունը, որպես մահվան պատճառ նշել է նրա «առաջացած տարիքը»: Եղիսաբեթ Երկրորդի ավագ որդին՝ արքայազն Չարլզը, դարձավ նոր միապետ՝ վերցնելով գահական Չարլզ Երրորդ անունը։ Թագադրման արարողությունը տեղի է ունեցել անցյալ տարվա մայիսի 6-ին Լոնդոնի Վեսթմինսթերյան աբբայությունում։
