Բալթիմորի Մերիլենդի համալսարանի ամերիկացի բժիշկներն ապացուցել են, որ ուղեղի ուռուցքների ճառագայթային թերապիայի կողմնակի ազդեցություններն անդառնալի չեն: Հետազոտության արդյունքները ներկայացվել են Ճառագայթային ուռուցքաբանության ամերիկյան ընկերության (ASTRO) տարեկան ժողովում:
Ըստ գոյություն ունեցող գնահատականների՝ քաղցկեղով հիվանդների 30%-ի՝ տարեկան մոտ 600 հազար մարդու շրջանում, հիվանդության ընթացքի ինչ-որ պահի ուղեղի մետաստազներ են ախտորոշվում:
Ուղեղի մետաստազների ստանդարտ բուժումը հաճախ ներառում է կամ ամբողջ ուղեղի ճառագայթային թերապիա կամ ավելի միօրինակ ճառագայթային եղանակներ, որոնց դեպքում ճառագայթը ճշգրիտ թիրախավորում է ուռուցքը և ուղեղի առողջ հյուսվածքի նկատմամբ ազդեցությունը նվազագույնի են հասցնում:
Ուղեղային ճառագայթային թերապիան օգնում է կանխել քաղցկեղի հետագա տարածումը ուղեղում, սակայն հիվանդները կարող են բախվել ճանաչողական ունակությունների որոշ բարդությունների, մասնավորապես կարող են նկատվել խնդիրներ կատարողական գործառույթի, ուսուցման և հիշողության նվազման առումով:
Նոր հետազոտության ընթացքում թիմը վերլուծել է 288 հիվանդների տվյալները: Վերջիններիս երկարաժամկետ ճանաչողական թեստավորման արդյունքները ստացվել են ուղեղի ճառագայթային թերապիայից հետո:
Ճանաչողական ունակությունների վերականգնումը գնահատելու համար գիտնականները հիվանդների բուժումից առաջ և նեյրոճանաչողական կորստից վեց և 12 ամիս անց հետազոտել են մտավոր կարողությունների թեստերի արդյունքները:
Ճանաչողական ունակությունների անկման առաջին նշաններից վեց ամիս անց հիվանդների 38%-ի շրջանում ճանաչողական ունակությունները լիարժեք վերականգվել են, իսկ մեկ տարի անց այդ ցուցանիշը հասել է 42%-ի։
Ուղեղի գործառույթի վերականգնումը սահմանվել է իբրև յուրաքանչյուր թեստի ժամանակ հիվանդի ճանաչողական գործունեության զգալի անկում:
Ու թեև ոչ բոլոր հիվանդներն են ամբողջությամբ ապաքինվել, մոտ երեք քառորդը կորցրած ճանաչողական Ճանաչողական ունակությունների գոնե մի մասը վերականգնել է:
Բուժումից վեց ամիս անց հիվանդների 73%-ի շրջանում բարելավվել է մեկ կամ մի քանի ճանաչողական Ճանաչողական ունակությունների թեստեր՝ 12 ամսվա ընթացքում հասնելով 76%-ի:
