Դեմոկրատական կուսակցությունից նախագահի թեկնածու, ԱՄՆ փոխնախագահ Քամալա Հարիսն ուղերձ է հղել ամերիկահայ համայնքին Անկախության տոնի կապակցությամբ։

«Իմ լավագույն մաղթանքներն եմ հղում ձեզ, քանի որ նշում եք Հայաստանի Անկախության օրը, երբ հայ ժողովուրդը քվեարկեց Խորհրդային Միությունից անջատվելու օգտին՝ ազատ, անկախ ազգ լինելու համար:

Մինչ մենք տոնում ենք, մենք երբեք չպետք է մոռանանք Հայոց ցեղասպանությունը, երբ մոտ 1,5 միլիոն հայեր տեղահանվեցին, կոտորվեցին և ուղարկվեցին մահվան երթի։ Դա ողբերգություն է, որը շարունակում է ձևավորել հայ ժողովրդի ինքնությունը։ Ամերիկահայ համայնքի տոկունությունը մնում է ոգեշնչման աղբյուր մեր հավաքական ամերիկյան պատմության մեջ»,- նշվում է ամերիկացի պաշտոնյայի ուղերձում։

Հարիսն ընդգծել է նաև Արցախի հայության վերադարձի իրավունքի կարևորությունը․ «Ես հավատարիմ եմ մնում Հայաստանի և նրա հարևանների միջև կայուն խաղաղությանը, որը հարգում է ինքնիշխանությունը, անկախությունը և տարածքային ամբողջականությունը: Լեռնային Ղարաբաղից տեղահանված հայերի՝ իրենց տներ անվտանգ վերադառնալու իրավունքը կենսական նշանակություն ունի հայ ժողովրդի արժանապատվությունը և տարածաշրջանում կայունությունը վերականգնելու համար»,- ասել է նա։

Հարիսը հավելել է, որ կշարունակի աջակցել Հայաստանին ժողովրդավարության ամրապնդման և տարածաշրջանում կայունության հաստատման ջանքերում. «Հայաստանն ու նրա ժողովուրդն ունեն հարուստ պատմություն, որը ոգեշնչում է բոլորիս՝ ձգտել ազատության և արդարության: Ես հավատարիմ եմ մնում մեր ազգերի միջև կապերի խորացմանը և գործընկերության խթանմանը, որը բարձրացնում է մեր ընդհանուր արժեքներն ու ձգտումները: Միասին մենք կարող ենք կառուցել ավելի ապահով, արդար և ազատ աշխարհ»:
