Այս շաբաթ հրապարակված նոր զեկույցում ասվում է, որ Ամերիկան հաղթահարում է քաղցկեղի մի քանի հիմնական տեսակներ:
Բայց մինչ տարեցների շրջանում քաղցկեղի մակարդակը նվազում է, ավելի տագնապալի միտում է նկատվում. երեխաների և երիտասարդների շրջանում քաղցկեղի, ներառյալ արյան քաղցկեղի, դեպքերի թվի աճը։
16-ամյա Էլիզաբեթ Ռոուդսը Միչիգանից ամերիկացի անչափահասներից մեկն է, որը հիվանդացել է այդ հիվանդությամբ, որը սովորաբար ախտահարում է տարեցներին, գրում է Daily Mail-ը։
Նրան տեղափոխել են իր նահանգի շտապ օգնության բաժանմունք «ոչ սպեցիֆիկ» ախտանիշներով, որոնք ներառում էին պարանոցի և թևատակերի այտուց, ջերմություն և գիշերային քրտնարտադրություն:

2023 թվականի հուլիսին, քաղցկեղի հայտնաբերումից հետո, նրան հանել են դպրոցից, նա ինը ամիս անցկացրել է հիվանդանոցում՝ ստանալով քիմիաթերապիա, ճառագայթում, այնուհետև ոսկրածուծի փոխպատվաստում: Ռոուդսն այժմ ռեմիսիայի մեջ է, որը բժիշկները նկարագրում են որպես «չափազանց դիմացկուն»։ Սակայն հարց է մնում, թե ինչու է աղջիկը, որն այժմ 17 տարեկան է և դեռևս դպրոց չի վերադարձել, հիվանդացել քաղցկեղով:
