Մեծ Բրիտանիայի արտգործնախարար Դևիդ Լեմմին հայտարարել է, թե «Ադրբեջանն ազատագրել է 1990-ականներին կորցրած իր հողերը» և դա համեմատել Ռուսաստանի դեմ Ուկրաինայի պայքարի հետ: Այս մասին նա գրել է ուկրաինական հակամարտությանը նվիրված իր հոդվածում։ 2023-ի սեպտեմբերի 19-ին Ադրբեջանը, իննամսյա շրջափակումից հետո մեծածավալ հարձակում ձեռնարկեց Լեռնային Ղարաբաղի դեմ, ինչի արդյունքում էթնիկ զտման ենթարկվեց Արցախի ամբողջ հայ բնակչությունը։
Բրիտանական մամուլի տեղեկություններով, Մեծ Բրիտանիայում Հայաստանի դեսպան Վարուժան Ներսեսյանը շտապ պարզաբանում է փորձում ստանալ Լեմմիի մեկնաբանությունների վերաբերյալ, իսկ մի շարք փորձագետներ քննադատել են ԱԳ նախարարին, հիշեցրել, որ նրա տեսակետն իբր «հակասում» է բրիտանական կառավարության պաշտոնական դիրքորոշմանը։
Անցյալ սեպտեմբերին Մեծ Բրիտանիայի բարձրաստիճան դեսպան Նիլ Հոլանդը քննադատել էր Ադրբեջանի կողմից ուժի կիրառումը և բռնությունները Լեռնային Ղարաբաղի տարածաշրջանի շուրջ էթնիկ և տարածքային հակամարտությունում: Հոլանդը նշել էր, որ Ադրբեջանի կողմից ուժի կիրառումն անընդունելի է և վերահաստատել է, որ Բրիտանիան կոչ է արել դադարեցնել կրակը երկարատև հակամարտությունում։ ԵԱՀԿ-ում Միացյալ Թագավորության պատվիրակության ղեկավար Հոլանդը քննադատել է Ադրբեջանի որոշումը՝ տարածաշրջանում ռազմական գործողություններ սկսելը բռնությունների դադարից հետո: Նրա հայտարարությունները հնչել էին այն բանից հետո, երբ Ադրբեջանը ռազմական հարձակում է սկսել Արցախի դեմ։
Առնվազն տարօրինակ է կարծել, թե ԱԳ նախարարը տեղյակ չէ նախկինում արված հայտարարություններից, կամ չգիտի, թե ինչ է կատարվում։ Լոնդոնը սեփական շահերն ունի Հարավային Կովկասում, սիկ Ադրբեջանի հետ նրա հարաբերությունները չափազանց սերտ են թե՛ տնտեսական, թե՛ քաղաքական առումով։ Դևիդ Լեմմիի այս հայտարարությունը կարելի է գնահատել միայն որպես սեփական շահերի առաջմղում։ Իսկ Հայաստանի հետ հարաբերությունների վրա բրիտանացիները վաղուց և խորապես թքած ունեն։
