Իսրայելի պաշտպանության բանակը (ԻՊԲ) հայտնել է, որ Գազայի հատվածում հումանիտար օգնության ավտոշարասյանը հասցրած ավիահարվածի թիրախում են եղել զինված անձինք, որոնք փորձում էին առևանգել օգնությունը։ Սակայն ըստ օգնության մատակարարումը կազմակերպող հումանիտար կազմակերպության՝ ավիահարվածի հետևանքով զոհվել են այն տրանսպորտային ընկերության աշխատակիցները, որոնց հետ իրենք համագործակցում էին։

The Guardian պարբերականը հաղորդում է, որ ԱՄՆ-ում տեղակայված «Աներա» հասարակական կազմակերպության շարասյունը բժշկական պարագաներ և վառելիք էր տանում Գազայի հատվածի հարավում՝ Ռաֆահում գտնվող հիվանդանոց, երբ օգոստոսի 29-ի երեկոյան ենթարկվել է հարձակման։

Ավտոշարասյան երթուղին նախապես համաձայնեցված է եղել ԻՊԲ-ի հետ, ինչը պետք է ապահովեր, որ հումանիտար մեքենաները չռմբակոծվեն։ 

«Ցավոք, մի քանի անձ, որոնք բոլորն այն տրանսպորտային ընկերության աշխատակիցներն էին, որոնց հետ մենք աշխատում ենք, զոհվել են հարձակման հետևանքով։ Նրանք ավտոշարասյան առաջին մեքենայում էին», - հայտնել է «Արենա»-ի Պաղեստինի տարածաշրջանային տնօրեն Սանդրա Ռաշիդը։

Չհաստատված տվյալներով՝ ավիահարվածի հետանքով 5 մարդ է զոհվել։

ԻՊԲ-ն հաստատել է, որ երթուղին համաձայնեցված է եղել։ Միևնույն ժամանակ ԻՊԲ-ն նշել է, որ ավտոշարասյան ընթացքի ժամանակ մի շարք զինված անձինք գրավել են շարասյան առջևից ընթացող մեքենան և սկսել են վարել այն։

Այս միջադեպից ժամեր առաջ Իսրայելի զինվորները կրակ էին բացել Պարենի համաշխարհային ծրագրի (World Food Program - WFP) մեքենայի վրա, որի վրա առկա էր ՄԱԿ-ի տարբերանշան։ WFP-ն հայտարարել է, որ երկու մեքենաներից մեկին հարվածել է առնվազն 10 գնդակ, երբ այն մոտեցել է ԻՊԲ-ի անցակետին։ Մեքենայում գտնվող անձինք չեն վնասվել, սակայն WFP-ն ժամանակավորապես դադարեցրել է Գազայի հատվածում իր անձնակազմի տեղաշարժը։
