Ժամանակը չի բուժել Ջորջ Քլունիի եւ ռեժիսոր Դեւվիդ Օ. Ռասելի վերքերը։ Օսկարակիր դերասանը GQ ամսագրում հրապարակված «Գայլեր»-ի իր գործընկեր Բրեդ Փիթի հետ համատեղ հարցազրույցում ռեժիսորին անվանել է «խղճուկ անպիտան»:
Քլունիի եւ Ռասելի միջեւ հակամարտությունը սկսվել է 1999 թվականին նկարահանված «Երեք թագավորներ» ռազմական ֆիլմի նկարահանման հրապարակում։
Քլունին ասել է, որ ավելի ընտրողական է այն հարցում, թե ում հետ է աշխատում, նույնիսկ, եթե դա նշանակում է զոհաբերել արժեքավոր գործը: «Դա այդպես չէ, որ «Օ՜, ես պատրաստվում եմ նկարահանել իսկապես լավ ֆիլմ, ինչպես «Երեք թագավորները», բայց ես պետք է աշխատեմ Դեյվիդ Օ. Ռասելի նման խղճուկ անպիտանի հետ, ով իմ կյանքը դժոխք է դարձնելու: Թիմի յուրաքանչյուր մարդու կյանքը դժոխքի է վերածել»,-նշել է նա։
Քլունին խաղացել է Արչի Գեյթսի դերը «Երեք թագավորներ» ֆիլմում, որը էկրան է բարձրացել 1999 թվականի հոկտեմբերին։
Քլունին 2000 թվականին Playboy-ին տված հարցազրույցում մանրամասնել է իր բախումը Ռասելի հետ՝ անվանելով ֆիլմի արտադրությունը իր կյանքի ամենավատ փորձը:
Հարցազրույցներից մեկում Քլունին պատմել է, որ տեսնելով, որ Ռասելը վիրավորում է անձնակազմի անդամներին՝ նվաստացնելով նրանց ուրիշների առաջ, նա նամակ է գրել ռեժիսորին՝ խնդրելով նրան հանգստանալ հանուն նախագծի։
