ԱՄՆ դատարանը սենատոր Մենենդեսին մեղավոր է ճանաչել կոռուպցիայի համար

Երեքշաբթի օրը՝ հուլիսի 16-ին, Մանհեթենի դաշնային դատարանի երդվյալ ատենակալները դեմոկրատ սենատոր Բոբ Մենենդեսին մեղավոր են ճանաչել մեղադրանքի բոլոր 16 հոդվածներով, այդ թվում՝ կաշառակերության, շորթման և օտարերկրյա գործակալի վերաբերյալ: Դատավարությունը տևել է ինը շաբաթ: Նրան սպառնում է տասնյակ տարիների ազատազրկում:
Դեմոկրատ սենատորները և Նյու Ջերսիի նահանգապետ Ֆիլ Մերֆին կրկին կոչ են արել Մենենդեսին հրաժարական տալ, գրում է dw.com-ը։
«Սենատոր Մենենդեսն այժմ պետք է անի այն, ինչ ճիշտ է իր ընտրողների՝ Սենատի և մեր երկրի համար, և հրաժարական տա», - ասվում է Սենատի մեծամասնության դեմոկրատական առաջնորդ Չակ Շումերի հայտարարության մեջ:
Դատավճռի հրապարակումից հետո Մենենդեսն ասել է, որ խորապես հիասթափված է երդվյալ ատենակալների որոշումից:
«Ես լիովին վստահ եմ, որ մենք հաջողության կհասնենք բողոքարկման ժամանակ, ես երբեք օտարերկրյա գործակալ չեմ եղել: Երդվյալ ատենակալների որոշումը վտանգի է ենթարկում ԱՄՆ Սենատի յուրաքանչյուր անդամի այն հարցում, թե ով կարող է համարվել օտարերկրյա գործակալ», - ասել է քաղաքական գործիչը, որը թոշակի է անցել Սենատի արտաքին հարաբերությունների հանձնաժողովի նախագահի պաշտոնից 2023 թվականի սեպտեմբերին:
Դատախազների խոսքով՝ 70-ամյա սենատորը և նրա կինը՝ Նադին Մենենդեսը, որպես կաշառք երեք գործարարից ստացել են հարյուր հազարավոր դոլարներ կանխիկ գումար, ոսկու ձուլակտորներ, հիփոթեքային վճարումներ:
Փոխարենը Մենենդեսն օգնել է միլիարդավոր դոլարների ամերիկյան օգնություն տրամադրել Եգիպտոսին, որտեղ գործարարներից մեկը պետական կապեր ուներ: Դատախազները Մենենդեսին մեղադրել են նաև երկու այլ գործարարի դեմ քրեական հետաքննության ընթացքի վրա ազդելու փորձի համար:
«Սա քաղաքականություն էր շահույթի համար: Տարիները, որոնց ընթացքում նա իր պաշտոնը վաճառում էր ամենաբարձր գինը վճարողին, վերջապես ավարտվեցին», - լրագրողներին ասել է Նյու Յորքի Հարավային շրջանի դաշնային դատախազ Դամիան Ուիլյամսը:
Սենատորի դեմ քրեական գործ է հարուցվել դեռ 2022 թվականի հոկտեմբերին։ 2022 թվականին սենատորի Նյու Ջերսիի տանը խուզարկության ժամանակ քննիչները հայտնաբերել են 480,000 դոլար կանխիկ գումար, ինչպես նաև ավելի քան 100,000 դոլար արժողությամբ ոսկու ձուլակտորներ:
