Որքան Ադրբեջանը սաստկացնում է իր ագրեսիվ հռետորաբանությունը, այնքան էլ հարավային հարևան Իրանն է ամրապնդում իր դիրքորոշումը։ Իրանում նախագահական արտահերթ ընտրություններն ու դրանցում էթնիկ ատրպատականցու հաղթանակը ադրբեջանական մամուլին և փորձագիտական շրջանակներին հույսեր էր ներշնչել, թե կարող են որոշակի փոփոխություններ սպասել արտաքին քաղաքական ուղղությամբ։

Չնայած պաշտոնական Թեհրանը տարբեր մակարդակներով հայտնել է, թե արտաքին քաղաքական գերակայությունները չեն փոխվելու, իսկ նոր նախագահը շարունակելու է նախկին կուրսը, Բաքվում որոշակի հույսեր էին փայփայում։ Հայաստանում Իրանի դեսպանն է հայտարարել, թե ամեն ինչ կանեն, որ տարածաշրջանում պատերազմ չլինի։  «Մենք ուզում ենք, որ բոլորը հարգեն միմյանց տարածքային ամբողջականությունը։ Եվ կանխարգելումը շատ ավելի լավ է, քան բուժումը։ Մեր ամենամեծ ջանքն է, որ պատերազմ չլինի տարածաշրջանում։ Միջագզային հանրությունն էլ է ուզում դա։ Հայաստանի տարածքային ամբողջականությունը ճանաչվել է միջազգային հանրության կողմից և իր սահմանները հստակ են։ Եվ պատերազմի նպատակ էլ չունի»,- նշել է Մեհդի Սոբհանին։

Նրա խոսքով, Իրանում տեսնում են, որ Հայաստանն ուզում է պահպանել խաղաղությունը և կայնությունը։  «Այդ ցանկությունը, խաղաղության և սահմանների հստակեցումը ցույց են տաիս, որ կողմերը չեն ուզում գնալ դեպի պատերազմ։ Եվ, ի վերջո, որևէ արադրացում չկա պատերազմի համար։ Որևէ հող Ադրբեջանից չի գտնվում Հայաստանի հսկողության ներքո, որ դրա համար ուզենան հարձակվել Հայաստանի վրա, ես կարծում եմ որ դա հաշվի կառնի նաև Ադրբեջանի կառավարությունը, որ պատերազմի համար չկա արդարացում»,- ասել է Իրանի դեսպանը։

Այս խոսքերն ամբողջությամբ ուղղված էին Ադրբեջանին, և հստակ նախազգուշացում էին, որ էսկալացիա սկսելու դեպքում Իրանը մի կողմ չի քաշվելու։
