Բարեփոխական Մասուդ Փեզեշքիանի հաղթել է Իրանի նախագահական ընտրությունների երկրորդ փուլում՝ դառնալով երկրի իններորդ նախագահը։ SNN գործակալության հաղորդմամբ, հայտարարել է Իրանի ներքին գործերի նախարարության ընտրական հանձնաժողովի ղեկավարը;
Նախնական արդյունքներվ, Մասուդ Փեզեշքիանը ստացել է 16 միլիոն 384 հազար 403 ձայն, իսկ պահպանողական Սաիդ Ջալիլին՝ 13 միլիոն 538 հազար 179 ձայն։
Ավելի վաղ իրանագետ Վարդան Ոսկանյանը գրել էր.
«Հայաստանի շահերից գործընթացը դիտարկելիս պետք է նշել անշուշտ, որ հայ-իրանական հարաբերությունների կարևորությունը չի կարող նկատի չունենալ Իրանի և ոչ մի նախագահ։
Միևնույն ժամանակ, սակայն, Մասուդ Փեզեշքիանի մերձավոր կողմնակիցների շարքում կան պանթյուրքական տրամադրություններ ունեցող անձինք, որոնք, բնականաբար, վերջինիս հնարավոր նախագահության դեպքում ձգտելու են զանազան պաշտոններ զբաղեցնել տարբեր մակարդակներում և առաջ մղել Իրան-Ադրբեջան ու Իրան-Թուրքիա հարաբերությունները։
Ըստ այդմ, Սայիդ Ջալիլին շատ ավելի ընկալելի նախագահի թեկնածու է Հայաստան-Իրան բարեկամական և հազարամյակների պատմություն ունեցող հարաբերություններն էլ ավելի սերտացնելու և խորացնելու առումով»։
